B.A. & B.Sc. Eligibility Criteria 2015
Some special conditions for admission to Honours Courses in Economics, Mathematics, Chemistry, Microbiology, Education, Philosophy, Anthropology, Botany and Zoology:
- Economics : A candidate shall be allowed to take up Honours in Economics if he/she has passed in Mathematics at the H.S. Examination (10+2) conducted by West Bengal Council of H.S. Education or its equivalent examination in Mathematics/Business Mathematics of ISC. Students who passed Business Economics including Business Math in H. S. (10+2) level from W.B. Council of H.S. Education are not eligible for admission in the Honours Course in Economics.
- Mathematics : A candidate shall be allowed to take up Honours in Mathematics if he/she has passed in Mathematics at the previous qualifying examination. However, a candidate who has passed Business Mathematics is not eligible for admission to Mathematics Honours Course.
- Chemistry : A candidate shall be allowed to take up Honours in Chemistry if he/she has passed Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics at the previous qualifying examination.
- Microbiology : A candidate shall be allowed to take up Honours in Microbiology if he/she has passed the subject Physiology/Biology/Bio-technology and Chemistry in the previous qualifying examination. Subject Combination offered for Microbiology in the College: Chemistry and any one of the following subjects: a) Physics, b) Zoology
- Philosophy : The subject Psychology be treated as a related subject.
- Anthropology : The subject Biology be treated as a related subject. A candidate shall not be allowed to take up Anthropology along with Sociology.
- Botany : The subject Biology/Biotechnology is treated as a related subject.
- Zoology : The subject Biology/Biotechnology be treated as a related subject.
The Criteria for Admission to B.A. & B. Sc. (Major) Degree Course:
- A candidate who secures a minimum of 45% marks in the aggregate at the H.S. (10+2) or in an equivalent examination shall be eligible for admission to B.A. / B.Sc./B.Com. (Major) Degree Course of Studies provided he/she has passed the said examination with 5 recognized subjects of which at least one is English carrying not less than 100 as full marks.
- However, candidates belonging to the Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe community taking up Major Course of study must have obtained a minimum of 40% marks in the aggregate or 40% marks in the subject or related subjects at the previous qualifying examinations, as the case may be.
Criteria for some Honours Courses prescribed by the college
If a student wants to take Honours in Electronics or Computer Science, he/she must secure at least 45% marks in both Physics & Mathematics of full marks not being less than 100 each in the last qualifying examination. If a student wants to take a Honours in Physics, he/she must secure at least 45% marks in Mathematics of full marks not being less than 100 each in the last qualifying examination. If a student wants to take up Honours in Chemistry he/she must secure at least 40% marks in both physics and Mathematics of full marks not being less than 100 each in the last qualifying examination.
A student willing to take Zoology / Botany Honours must have Chemistry as a subject in H.S. or equivalent Examination.
A student willing to take Zoology Honours must secure 50% in English H.S. or equivalent Examination.
