Eligibility Criteria for B.Tech.

The admission process would be caried out as per the following guidelines:

  • Admission would be as per the existing vacancy position (enclosed here with).

    Candidates must pass Higher Secondary Examination (10+2 level) or its equivalent examination from recognised council or board with :
    • Individual pass marks in Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subject along with Chemistry / Bio-technology / Biology / a Technical Vocational Subject (Engineering Drawing / Computer Science).
    • Minimum of 45% marks in the above subjects taken together (40% for SC / ST / PwD / OBC Candidates) as well as pass in English with a minimum of 30% marks (for all categories of Candidates) in the said qualifying examination.
  • Valid WBJEE, JEE (Main) Rank is essential under the scheme.
  • Admission would be based on application recived from the candidates preferences WBJEE, JEE (Main) & JELET Ranks

Mode of Selection for B.Tech.

  • Admission to any course will be made on the basis of the merit list from the Joint Entrance Examination(JEE) for Engineering to be conducted by West Bengal Board of examination for admission to Engineering Degree Colleges or through merit list of All India Engineering Entrance Examination (A.I.E.E.E.) conducted by the Central Board of Higher Secondary Examination.

Candidates have to produce before the Admission Committee of the Institute the following documents in original in support of their eligibility and other requirements :

  • Admit Card of Secondary Exam - 3 Attested copies.
  • Admit Card of Entrance Exam
  • Rank Card
  • Marksheet of Madhyamik / Secondary / Equivalent - 3 Attested copies.
  • Marksheet of 10+2 or Qualifying Examination - 3 Attested copies.
  • Certificate from Head of Institute from which candidate has passed / appeared in qualifying examination
  • Migration Certificate (if any)
  • Four (4) recent coloured passport size photograph (Students need to submit six (6) coloured passport size photograph separately to Library after taking admission)
  • Certificate of Physical/Mental fitness by a Registered Medical Practitioner (Original), with blood group test copy
  • Eye Fitness Certificate by a Registered Eye-Specialist
  • Enrollment and Allotment Form, WBJEEB

The Birbhum Institute of Engineering and Technology, Suri, India, was established by the Indian Centre for Advancement of Research and Education (ICARE), Birbhum under the chairmanship of Shri Somnath Chatterjee, Speaker of the 14th Lok Sabha and the Vice Chairmanship of Shri Pranab Mukherjee, Finance Minister, government of India. BIET started functioning from 1999 under the chairmanship of Indologist and educationalist Professor Padmashri Late Ramaranjan Mukherjee. The institute is run as a non-profit organization with guidance from academicians like Professor Amitabha Ghosh, former Director, IIT Kharagpur who is the Chairman of Board of Governors and other social workers and philanthropists from the District and around. Professor Ajoy Ray is a member of the Board of Governors.

Situated at the sprawling technocomplex of 32 acres at Suri, Birbhum, BIET emerged as the pioneer engineering institute in Birbhum. It receives aid from the Government of West Bengal, World Bank under TEQIP-II, Birbhum Zilla Parishad, West Bengal Power Development Corporation Limited and MPLAD scheme for the development of the infrastructure and the campus.

Courses taught at undergraduate level are Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering and Information Technology.
