Ph.D. Program

The Department of Financial Studies offers Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) Programme to scholars who are interested in research work. The Department has carved out a niche for it self over the years for meeting high academics standards clubbed with excellence and originality in research projects. The objective of research at the department is to explore new areas in the field of business and finance.

The programme offers specialization in the areas of E-Commerce, Organisational Behaviour, Marketing, Finance, and Accounting.

The Ph.D. is awarded to those research students who are able to prove their competence in conducting research work which is innovative independent and meaningful.

ADMISSION INFORMATION MFC

Admission to the MBA (Financial Management) program is done through Common Admission Test (CAT) followed by group discussion and personal interview of the short listed candidates.

Library

Like other libraries, the campus library is a quiet place where students enjoy reading books, doing research, working on their laptops or studying. The library is housed in a 3 storey building containing books of multiple streams like Science, Management, English, psychology, Hindi, arts etc. It also contains a computer center where students access internet free of charge. The library timings are very suitable and convenient. The Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) system in the library contains information about all the books, wherein each book is given a distinct code pertaining to its particular stream, section and shelf number. It helps the students to easily locate books of their choice. The students are allowed to issue books and reissue them with the help of their library card. The atmosphere in the library is very calm and disciplined. There is a spacious seating arrangement for the students on all the 3 floors. Besides books, magazines and news papers are also available. It also has a reference section and a separate reading room.

Classrooms

DFS has spacious classrooms with a host of all the ample facilities providing comfortable seating arrangement and a relieved breathing space. Classrooms at DFS provide conducive environment to sit, ponder and understand. Thanks to the serenity and peace of mind for which the south campus is known for, one can easily sit in the classes for entire day without facing any sorts of turbulence from the outside environment and enjoy lectures, thus, gaining wisdom and building quantitative and qualitative skill set day in and day out. There is adequate infrastructure in terms of Wi-Fi connectivity, vacant classrooms, and renowned financial databases like Ace equity, Prowess etc. to build your capabilities. There is a special discussion room for students where they can present mock Power Point Presentations, do group discussions, learn the nuances of working in teams, and most importantly, think like the leaders of tomorrow.

Hostel

The hostels in the campus are a great boon for those whose homes are far away. There are separate hostels for boys and girls. There are 2 boys hostels named Aravali and Saramati. There is 1 girls hostel named Geetanjali . The admission is on merit. There are rules and regulations at the hostels which train the students in improving their conduct and character. There meals are provided at fixed hours and include more of chinese, south indian and north indian food. Wifi facility is available. There are many outdoor fun activities for the students - like badminton and cricket and indoor activities like table tennis, gymnasium (in boys hostel), TV room etc. The annual hostel functions in which students particpate in different sports and talent show events also add to the social life at the hostels. They are like a home for the students, where they can enjoy most of if not all, the comforts and pleasures of home.

Canteen

The campus canteen is the place where every kind of fun is possible for students from parties to mid day meetings to filling empty stomachs.It is a separate building and has a spacious room with wooden tables and chairs. The delectable dishes served range from south indian meals like dosa, idli, vada to chinese like honey chilli potato, noodles to north indian snacks like samosas along with soothing drinks like juices, lemon soda, lassis etc. All the food items are very reasonably priced. The atmosphere in the cafetaria is always lively with students often seen indulging in extensive discussions while having food. Overall, it is more than a simple hangout - a place of sharing and caring.

The Department of Financial Studies (DFS), under the prestigious Delhi University, has been an institution of learning for students who aspire to enhance their managerial efficacy in the finance industry. Tracing its roots in the Delhi School of Economics, the Department of Financial Studies was carved out of the Department of Commerce of the University in 1987 to provide training in the field of finance. The Department of Financial Studies is located at the South Campus of the university. For the last 27 years, DFS has been providing the industry with qualified, proficient and dedicated finance professionals through a full-time two-year MBA (Financial Management).

The Programme seeks to equip a select group of students with conceptual and analytical skills of financial decision making. What sets this course apart from contemporary courses in the area of management is the balanced blend of various aspects of Finance.

The students are provided with inputs in the basic areas of managerial decision-making such as Organizational Behaviour, Managerial Economics, Quantitative Techniques, Financial Accounting, Corporate Laws, etc., as well as in different areas of finance such as Financial Management, Financial Services, International Finance, International Accounting, Investment Management, Project Appraisal and so on.

To keep students abreast with the latest developments in the field of finance, the curriculum has been updated with effect from 1998-99 to include new courses such as Derivatives & Risk Management, Treasury Management, Real Estate Investment Management, Insurance Management, Mutual Funds Management, Equity Research etc. The summer training programme offers the students an opportunity to put the acquired financial knowledge to practice and also to leverage on the experience gained in their second year. The edge is further sharpened by constant interaction with the industry through the Annual Convention, Seminars, Workshops, Symposia and Research work.

Thorough grooming of the students over a period of two years gives them a fine blend of theoretical and practical inputs to take on challenging careers in the field of Corporate Finance, International Finance, Merchant Banking, Capital and Money Markets, Portfolio Management, Investment Advisory Services, Credit Rating, Venture Capital, FOREX Advisory Services, etc. Under the guidance of a learned faculty, renowned in the field of finance and other related areas, industry practitioners and academicians, the MFCian epitomizes the philosophy of vision, innovation and excellence, to perform and shine.
