Vocational Courses Affiliated to West Bengal State Council of Vocational Training and Education, the college has 6 month training courses in Tailoring and in Amin Survey.
  • Eligibility - Candidates who have passed VIII + level examination and are below 40 years of age are eligible for admission which is purely on a first come first serve basis.
  • Admission - Students are admitted twice a year in July and January. Applications in plain paper mentioning age, address, educational qualification are to be submitted to the Principal after the notification for admission is made in the college notice board. Total seats in each course are 35.
  • Course Fees - Sponsored by the Government of West Bengal the course is completely free. There is no Admission Fees or Tuition Fees.

  • Employment Oppertunities - The courses are employment generative. Upon completion of the course the students can enroll in the Government Employment Exchange. Besides they can also engage in small entrepreneurial ventures with loans and assistance from the government.
General Course -
Successful candidates of H.S. Examination are provisionally admitted to 1st year General classes as per C.U. Admission Norms. Direct Admission is allowed to Part I B.A / B.Sc / B.Com (General) and B.Com (Hons) Classes.

Honours Course Eligibility -
  • A minimum of 50% marks in the aggregate and 45% marks in the subject or related subject at the previous qualifying examination or
  • 55% marks in the subject or related subject at the previous qualifying examination, or
  • 50% marks in the aggregate when the candidate has not studied the subject in previous qualifying examination.
Candidates belonging to the Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe community taking up Honours Course of study must have obtained a minimum of 40% marks in the aggregate and 40% marks in the subject at the previous qualifying examination.

Students eligible for admission to Honours course should collect the selection forms on payment of Rs. 20 and on production of original H.S. mark-sheet. Merit panels are prepared with equal weight age on Best 4 Total marks and Subject Marks. Students are admitted on the basis of this merit panel which is published in different phases (First, Second, Third, Waiting List) till the vacancy exists.

  • Cultural Events - Man being a product of his society, the college takes special measures to promote creativity and cultural consciousness among its students. The college has a very vibrant cultural life. Cultural events are organized round the year. Fresher’s Welcome is celebrated with traditional gaiety at the beginning of every academic session. The Annual Social celebrated in the winter chill brings about unique warmth within the campus life.

    The college also celebrates Netajis’ Birthday and Independence Day with true nationalist spirit. Saraswati Puja is a mega event as all the students irrespective of faith take part in the festivities and enjoy community lunch in the campus.

    The students through various cultural programmes are encouraged to respect tradition as well as appreciate modern trends.
  • Sports - The Annual Sports is an elaborate affair extending over 3 days during December. The Events include various athletic events for both girls and boys like high jump, long jump, shot-put, discuss etc. The Knock Out cricket tournament is a major attraction.

    The college participates in inter college district sports and also in university sports in the arena of Athletics and Kabaddi. The college Kabaddi team has earned laurels time and again in the university sports.
  • Literary Activities - The college publishes an annual magazine Charaibati where students display their imagination and in the process give expression to their literary talent.
    Every department publishes an annual Wall Magazine which is designed and implemented by the students.
  • Extension Activities -
    • Seminars: The college organizes seminars on various contemporary issues like Child Trafficking and Aids Awareness camps periodically in association with local NGOs. Attempts are made to inculcate among the students a socially responsive attitude.
    • Red Ribbon Club: The college has a Red Ribbon Club which works for spreading awareness against Aids.
    • Blood Donation: Blood Donation Camps are organized annually in association with the sub divisional hospital.
  • Career Counselling - The college organizes Career Counseling camps which provide information to the students about recent career options in the retail sector, call centers etc. The college regularly updates its placement notice board as a broad guideline for the student community.
  • Campus Recruitment
  • Hostel - To provide opportunities to students coming from far flung rural areas, the college has a boys’ hostel, Khagendranath Chhatrabas with a capacity of 90 students. The three storied hostel has 21 rooms with electricity and hygienic cooking facilities. A wall magazine is also published regularly by the hostel students.
  • Staff Facilities - The college has a Guest House with three rooms and attached washroom. There is also a well ventilated airy Teachers’ staff room with provisions for refreshments. The staff room also has a computer for general use by the faculty.
  • Canteen - The college has a well laid out hygienic canteen catering to students and staff with refreshments at a subsidized rate.
  • Library - The college has a well – stocked Central Library with over 17000 books and 9 journals. There are also various educational CDs for both students and teachers. It is laid out over 1430 sq ft and can seat 50 students. The library has been partially automated using the CDS / ISIS system. Apart from the Central Library, every department has a seminar library which can be readily accessed by students and teachers.

College History


Gour Mohan Sachin Mandal Mahavidyalaya is a government – aided, co-educational multi-faculty college established in 1968. The college was founded by Dr. Satyendranath Naskar, a renowned educationalist with empathy towards the backward classes in 1968. Late Sachindranath Mandal, son of Late Gour Mohan Mandal, of the adjoining village Bireswarpur, donated land and money towards the establishment of the college. Many benevolent persons contributed land and money for the development and expansion of the college. The college at present is situated on 13.1 acres of land near Madhabpur station, Sealdah - Lakshmikantapur Railway Line. The Kolkata – Kulpi Road runs past the college.

Affiliated to the University of Calcutta on 30th August 1969 as a grants-in-aid college, the college was recognized by the U.G.C. under Section 2(f) on 28/01/1970. At present the college is accredited by NAAC with B Grade. The college has Honours Courses in BA and B Com streams, besides General courses in BA, B.Sc. and BCom. The college also runs a 6 months Certificate course in Tailoring and Amin Survey affiliated to West Bengal State Council of Vocational Education and Training. The Netaji Subhas Open University has a study centre which provides quality distance education to those who cannot attend full time courses.

Gour Mohan Sachin Mandal Mahavidyalaya perceives education and the process of educating as a total integral contextual process which includes students, teachers, parents, administration and the environment. The college in aspects of student profile faces a unique reality. Most of our students hail from economically weak, rural agricultural and socially backward families.
