ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR ADMISSION

Admissions to B.A. (Hons) / B.Sc. (Hons) / B.Com (Hons) / B.Com (Gen) for 2014-2015



  • B.Com (Honours)
    1. Honours in Accounting & Finance
      • For General and OBC Category : 60% in aggregate (See Note 3 below) AND 60% in any related subject (see Note 1 below).
      • For SC/ST of West Bengal Origin (See Note 4 below) Category : 45% in aggregate (See Note 3 below) and 45% in any related subject (see Note 1 below).
      • For Physically Challenged and For Outstanding Sports Person (see Note 2 below) : 50% in aggregate(See Note 3 below) and 45% in any related subject (see Note 1 below) OR 55% marks in any related subject (see Note 1 below).
    2. Honours in Marketing
      • For General and OBC Category : 50% in aggregate (See Note 3 below) AND 50% in any related subject (see Note 1 below).
      • For SC/ST of West Bengal Origin (See Note 4 below) : 40% in aggregate (See Note 3 below) and 40% in any related subject (see Note 1 below).
      • For Physically Challenged and For Outstanding Sports Person (see Note 2 below) : 50% in aggregate(See Note 3 below) and 45% in any related subject (see Note 1 below) OR 55% marks in any related subject (see Note 1 below)
  • B.Com. (General)
    1. For General Category, For OBC, For SC/ST of West Bengal Origin (See Note 4 below)and for Physically Challenged and Outstanding Sports Person (see Note 2 below) :
      Only pass in H.S. or Equivalent Level provided the candidate passed any of the following subject(s) at the previous qualifying examination. Accountancy, Business Economics including Business Mathematics, Business Organization, Mathematics, Business Mathematics, Economics, Statistics, Business Studies, Office and Secretarial Practice, Financial Accounting, Elements of Cost Accountancy and Auditing, Book Keeping, Commerce, Cost Accountancy & Principles of Management.

    NOTE :
    1. The word 'Subject' or 'related subject' for B. Com Honours in Accounting & Finance or in Marketing shall mean :
      Accountancy, Business Economics including Business Mathematics, Business Organization, Mathematics, Business Mathematics, Economics, Statistics, Business Studies, Office Practice and Secretarial, Financial Accounting, Elements of Cost Accountancy and Auditing, Book Keeping, Commerce, Cost Accountancy & Principles of Management.
    2. Outstanding Sports Person means a Person who has represented the State or Nation in the National or International level sports in one or more of the events specified below within the preceding three years, i.e. not before 01.01.2011.

      If selected for admission, such Sports persons must produce Certificate (s) in Original from appropriate authority, which will be adequately verified from such authority before admitting those sports persons. If at the time of verification, any of those certificates are fund to be false, admission shall be cancelled and complaint will be lodged in the appropriate forum.
    3. For the purpose of determining eligibility for admission to the Honours Course, aggregate marks shall be calculated by adding the marks in top-four subjects in order of marks secured by a candidate. However, marks in compulsory Environmental Education / Studies shall not be taken into account for calculation of aggregate marks. If the subject "Environmental Science" is studied as an elective subject of 100 marks, may be taken into account for the purpose of determining the aggregate marks.
    4. As per order no. BC/16014/82-SC & BCD-1, Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes of a particular State will be entitled to concessions/benefits admissible to the Scheduled Castes/ Tribes from her/his State of origin only. Therefore, Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes of West Bengal State only are entitled to relaxation in eligibility criteria regarding admission and reservation of seats. Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes from States other than West Bengal are not entitled to such benefits/concessions. They will be treated at par with the General Category students.

      In case of certification by MP/MLA/Municipal Councilor/Panchayat Member etc student must be a resident of the Constituency/Ward/Panchayat etc which is being represented by that certifying authority.

      All Scheduled Castes/ Scheduled Tribes Students must ensure that they will submit original Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes certificates of theirs, issued by competent authorities such as Backward Classes Welfare Department, West Bengal, if not submitted at the time of admission, within three months from the date of admission, failing which their admissions shall be liable to be cancelled.
    5. As per notification no. o7/Edn(U)/ IU- 89/13 dated 2.1.2014, while admitting OBC students against reserved quota a 10% reduction in marks in relation to students admitted against General quota will be considered. Students desirous of getting admission against OBC quota must mention that he or she belongs to OBC while filling in the online application form. In case the OBC applicants fail to submit, at the time of admission, certificates from competent authority, they have to submit a domicile certificate.

      OBC of a particular State will be entitled to concessions/benefits admissible to the OBC from her/his State of origin only. Therefore, OBC of West Bengal State only are entitled to relaxation in eligibility criteria regarding admission and reservation of seats. OBC from States other than West Bengal are not entitled to such benefits/concessions. They will be treated at per with the General Category students.

    6. An applicant will be eligible to apply against PH quota if he or she suffers from not less than 40% of the relevant disability [ (a) Blindness or Low Vision, (b) Heraing Impairment, (c) Locomotor Diability or Cerebral palsy]. He or she will have to submit, at the time of admission, a disability certificate issued by a competent authority ( Medical Board duly constituted by the Central or State Government).
    7. Applicants are asked to note that, if one gets listed on a list on the basis of overstatement of marks, he or she will never be admitted. On the other hand, if some one does not get listed because of understatement of marks, he or she will not be considered for admission until his or her name turns up on the basis of his or her disclosed marks on the application form.
    8. Applicants are asked to note that no student of B.Com (General) shall be allowed to pursue B. Com (Honours) course after his or her passing the B Com (Part 1) examination irrespective of his or her result in B. Com (Part 1) examination. Similarly, no student of B. Com (Marketing Honours) shall be allowed to pursue B.Com (Accounting and Finance Honours) irrespective of his or her results in B.Com. (Part 1 or Part 2) examinations.
  • B.A. / B.Sc. (Honours)
    1. Geography (Honours)
      • For General and OBC Category : 60% in aggregate (See Note 3 above) AND 60% in Geography.
      • For SC/ST of West Bengal Origin (See Note 4 above) : 45% in aggregate (See Note 3 above) AND 45% in Geography.
    2. For Physically Challenged & For Outstanding Sports Person (see Note 2 above) : 50% in aggregate(See Note 3 above) and 45 % in Geography OR 55% in Geography.
    3. English (Honours)
      • For General and OBC Category : 60% in aggregate (See Note 3 above) AND 60% in English.
      • For SC/ST of West Bengal Origin (See Note 4 above) : 45% in aggregate (See Note 3 above) AND 45% in English.
      • For Physically Challenged & For Outstanding Sports Person (see Note 2 above) : 50% in aggregate (See Note 3 above) and 45 % in English OR 55% in English.
    4. Political Science (Honours)
      • For General Category, For OBC, For Physically Challenged & For Outstanding Sports Person (see Note 2 above) :
        50% in aggregate(See Note 3 above) AND 45% in Political Science
        OR
        55% marks in Political Science
        OR
        50% marks in aggregate (See Note 3 above) if the student does not have Political Science as a subject
      • For SC/ST of West Bengal Origin (See Note 4 above) : 40% in aggregate(See Note 3 above) OR 40% in Political Science.
    5. History (Honours)
      • For General Category, For OBC, For Physically Challenged & For Outstanding Sports Person (see Note 2 above) :

        50% marks in aggregate (See Note 3 above) if the student does not have History as a subject.

    6. Bengali (Honours)

    7. Education (Honours)

      For Education Honours : The subjects Psychology / Philosophy / Mathematics / Sociology / Economics / Political Science / History be treated as related subject.
    8. Economics (Honours)
      • For General Category, For OBC, For Physically Challenged & For Outstanding Sports Person (See Note 2 above) :
        50% in aggregate(See Note 3 above) AND 45% in Economics
        OR
        55% marks in Economics
        OR
        50% marks in aggregate (See Note 3 above) if the student does not have Economics as a subject.
      • For SC/ST of West Bengal Origin (See Note 4 above) : 40% in aggregate (See Note 3 above) OR 40% in Economics.
      For Economics Honours : A candidate shall be allowed to take up Honours in Economics if he/she has passed in Mathematics at the H.S Examination (10+2) conducted by West Bengal Council of H.S. Education or its equivalent examination in Mathematics / Business Mathematics (NOT BUSINESS ECONOMICS INCLUDING BUSINESS MATHEMATICS).
