The College was set up by Maharaja Sris Chandra Nandy in memory of his father Maharaja Manindra- Chandra Nandy who was a renowned philanthropic zamindar of Cossimbazar. Maharaja Sris Chandra Nandy was an equally illustrious personality in the socio-cultural history of early 20th century Bengal. He represented the Bengal zamindars in the Fazle Haq- Shyamaprasad ministry.
Some local social workers and academicians of the locality in which the college is now located influenced Srischandra Nandy to set up a college that would cater to a huge section of students residing in this locality. The Maharaja accepted their proposal and the college was set up in 1941. An old dilapidated building, which previously functioned as a charitable dispensary, was converted to a college.
The building, now known as the common property of three separate colleges‚ÄĒ Maharani Kasiswari, Maharaja Manindra Chandra and Maharaja Sris Chandra was first established as Maharaja Manindrachandra College. Maharaja Sris Chandra College, as a separate institution, emerged in 1964-65.
