Academic Facilities

Library Facilities

The Institute has a well-equipped library with more than 16,000 books. The library subscribes to nearly 450 scientific journals. The library provides facilities for loaning of library books and journals, photocopying, internet access for literature search, etc. In addition, the library has inter-library loan arrangements with libraries of several other scientific institutions in the city.

Computer Facilities

The Institute has a hospital-wide computer network with more than 230 computers spread all over the hospital and departments. Internet connections are available in all the departments. All faculty members, residents and students are provided with e-mail facilities. All the patient care activites are computerised with implementation of a Windows-based hospital information system.

Auditorium and Seminar Rooms

The Institute has a main auditorium complex with state of art projection and multimedia facilities. A smaller auditorium with a seating capacity for nearly 140 persons is also available. In addition, each department has seminar room(s) for conducting departmental teaching activities.


Campus Facilities

Campus Accomodation

Two types of accomodation are available on the campus for students in various courses. For unmarried students/residents, there are two hostels that have with single-occupancy rooms (with attached bath). Married students/residents are provided with apartments (subject to availability) consisting of a living room, a bedroom, a lobby, kitchen, bathroom and a green courtyard. These residential areas are located within a walking distance of the teaching departments, laboratories and hospital.

Recreational Facilities

The institute has a large picturesque campus with large tree-covered green areas, parks and wide roads, and has a clean, smoke- and noise-free atmosphere, quite removed from the city. The institute thus provides an ideal environment for jogging, walking and cycling. The recreational facilities currently available include a large swimming pool and tennis courts, . A large sports complex is nearing completion.

Shopping facilites

The Institute has a community center with shops to cater to day-to-day needs fo the campus residents. In addition, there are some shopping areas close by but located outside the Institute campus. Of course, Lucknow is a major city of India and its several shopping areas are available for major shopping. The main shopping mall of Lucknow, Hazrat Ganj, is located nearly 13 Km from the campus and is only 20 to 25 minutes away.

Children's Education

The Institute campus has a nursery school and a high school upto class X (managed by Kendriya Vidhyalaya Sangathan or Central Schools Organization). Institute's bus services (on payment) are also available for children going to various schools in Lucknow city.

Bank and Post Office

The Institute campus has a branch of State Bank of India; this branch is fully computerized and offers all the facilities, including facilities for foreign exchange. The post office (PIN 226014) is open Monday to Saturday 9 AM to 4 PM and offers all facilities, including national and international speed post. These facilities are located in the Community center.

Communication Facilities

The Institute has a modern telephone exchange and all hostels and houses have telephone connections through this exchange. In addition, national and international phone dialling facilities (on payment) are available within the Institute campus. All students are provided with email accounts.

Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS) is a medical institute of India located in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. It was established in 1983 and is named after Sanjay Gandhi.

The institute is on a 550 acres (2.2 km2) residential campus at Raebareli Road, 15 km from the main city. The institute offers its own degrees, which are recognized by the Medical Council of India. SGPGIMS delivers tertiary medical care, super-specialty teaching, training and research. It offers DM, MCh, MD, Ph.D., postdoctoral fellowships (PDF) and postdoctoral certificate courses (PDCC), and senior residency.

SGPGIMS campus is spread over an area of 700 acres and is virtually a completely self-sufficient township in itself. This distance from the city offers an ideal mix of being away from the hustle and bustle of a large city, but not being too far from the facilities available in a large city. The campus has virtually all facilities needed by the students, residents and faculty. Some of these facilities are:

Residential quarters and bungalows of faculty, officers, nurses, technical staff and supportive staff are well appointed, and are perhaps better than any other academic/ medical institution in the country. A new campus has been developed in the last 5–6 years, which has the most spacious houses in the campus, amidst pristine natural surroundings. The campus has created a mammoth ground-water recharging project, which is in the new campus. It has a huge artificial lake, with fountains and walking path around it.

Recreational Facilities: The institute has a large campus with large tree-covered green areas, parks and wide roads, and has a clean, smoke- and noise-free atmosphere, quite removed from the city. The recreational facilities currently available include a large swimming pool and a spacious sports complex with flood-lit basketball, volleyball, tennis courts, indoor gymnasium, badminton hall, table tennis and other indoor games facilities. The campus has numerous parks, play-grounds and wooded areas, which give the campus green look. Owing to the huge amount of trees in the campus, the temperature of the campus is generally a few degrees lower compared to rest of the city. There is a hobby-center called "Rang" which also houses the faculty club, a community center and a large air-conditioned multi-purpose auditorium "Shruti".
