The establishment of
Netaji Satabarshiki Mahavidyalaya, Ashokenagar was the fulfullment of a dream long cherished by eminent personalities and educationists of the locality. In tune with the local thirst for knowledge which resulted in the emergence of a sizeable number of Secondary and Higher Secondary schools in the Ashokenagar-Kalyangarh area, the late Nani Kar, then an MLA , already an educationist and a dreamer, seriously felt the need for a degree college in the said catchments area.
The college in the vicinity, Sree Chaitnya College & Sree Chaitanya Mahavidyalaya at Habra could hardly accommodate the increasing demand and number of higher education-seekers from far and near.
Affiliation from University of Calcutta came on 8th December,2000, and the much awaited teaching-learning process took off at the adjacent Sanskriti Sangha Girl's School in the morning shift on and from 15th January, 2001where only 35 students were enrolled.
Presently , the college offers Honours course in seven(7) subjects, viz. Bengali, English, History, Political Science, Geography, Music and Sociology. General course of study in nine subjects, including the Honours ones, Education and Physical Education and Physical Education is offered. The college library is being enriched with books, journals & magazines.
There is no denying that the college is heading for excellence. New courses at par with the demand of the day like Journalism, Sanskrit etc., are in the pipeline. Preparation for getting the college accredited by NAAC is in full swing. Having been accredited by SAAC the college has received Rs. 8.5 lakh as grant.
