"Ekal Vidyalaya Foundation currently has 58,000 schools in India. They accommodate 56 million children, more than half of which are girls," told organiser, Mohan Wanchoo, who is also the chairman and founder of EC Infosystems, in a recent PTI report.
As reported on the official website, presently, Ekal Vidyalaya is a movement of over 52,000 teachers, 6,000 voluntary workers, 35 field organisation (throughout 22 Indian states), and 8 support agencies.
Meanwhile, few months back, one of India's largest non-governmental education organisations, Pratham raised more than $4 million for providing quality education to underprivileged children in the country.
Ekal Vidyalaya is a Movement involved in integrated and holistic development of rural and tribal India. The main activity undertaken in this movement is to run one-teacher schools (known as Ekal Vidyalayas) all over India, in the remotest rural and tribal villages to take the education to every child.
The Ekal movement aims to help eradicate illiteracy from rural and tribal India following the philosophy of rural development based on the criteria of equality and inclusiveness across all the sections of the society.
