notification
All students struggling to study in Delhi University can now hope for getting admission.

According to sources, DU's School of Opening Learning (SOL) is expected to start 10 new undergraduate courses, including vocational courses, for the commencing academic session.

As reported, the SOL's governing body (GB) of the varsity has given a nod to undergraduate courses such as BSc (honours) mathematics, BA (honours) history, and Bachelor of Vocation in human resource management.

List of Courses to be introduced

  • B.A. Honours in History
  • B.A. Honours in economics
  • B.A. Honours in Hindi
  • B.A. Honours in psychology
  • B.A. Honours in Sanskrit
  • B.A. Honours in Hindi journalism
  • B.Sc. Honours in Mathematics
  • B.Voc. in Human Resource Management
  • B.Voc. in Office Management and Secretarial Practices
  • B.Voc. in Marketing Management and Retail Business
Every year, SOL admits 1.5 lakh students to various undergraduate courses.
Commenting on these courses, director of the SOL CS Dubey in a recent HT report said, "The course structure and syllabus has been formed and approved by the GB and was sent to DU for consideration. The university gave us a proforma to fill in the details, which we did and sent it to the university."

Reasons for introduction of courses

"When we studied the number of applications received for these courses, we found that many students had applied but only a limited number got admission. There is a lot of demand for these courses among students so we are providing a chance for students to study these courses through distance medium," Dubey added.

Approval of courses

  • The courses will now have to be approved by the university administration and then another approval from the distance education board (DEB) will be required before starting the courses, HT reported.

Moreover, earlier this year, Delhi University announced that it is planning to scrap the cut-off system from 2017-18 and likely introduce an entrance test for admissions into undergraduate courses.
