IBPS RRB PO Main 2017 : Paper Analysis

The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) conducted the main exam for Officer Scale I and the single-level exam for Officer Scale II and III posts on 5th November.

Meanwhile, the main exam for Office Assistant is scheduled to be conducted on November 12.

Paper Analysis :

  • The difficulty level of the exam was moderate to difficult
  • Major changes were observed in the Quantitative Aptitude and Reasoning section
  • The difficulty level in Quantitative Aptitude questions saw a rise whereas a few usual questions like syllogism were missing in the Reasoning Section of this exam.
The IBPS RRB PO Mains Exam was an objective type paper of 200 marks that had 5 distinct sections, i.e., Numerical Ability, English/Hindi Language, Reasoning, Computer Knowledge, and General Awareness. A time period of 120 minutes or 2 hrs was allotted to solve the paper.

Numerical Ability (Difficult) :

This section constituted a total of 40 questions for 50 marks. The Numerical Ability questions were very difficult to solve. Also, there were four sets of DI that too had a convoluted pattern as the questions were based on chapters like percentage, average, ratio, partnership etc. So, the crux is that the Quantitative Aptitude Section was very calculative and time-consuming.

Hindi Language (Moderate) :

This section constituted of a total of 40 questions for 50 marks. The level of Hindi Language Section was moderate. Students tried to secure maximum marks in this section as they couldn't bring it off in the Quantitative Aptitude and Reasoning Ability Section. There was a Reading Comprehension that had ten questions and five of them vocab based questions of antonym and synonym.

Hindi_Language

English Language (Moderate) :

This section constituted a total of 40 questions for 50 marks. The English Language section was of moderate level. There were 2 sets of Reading Comprehensions that had seven questions each. The topics of the Reading Comprehensions were related to Economy. Some variations were seen in the pattern of questions asked in English section as one of the cloze tests was not based on single word filler.

Students were asked to identify the phrase or sentence for each blank given in the close test. A new type of question was there on Opposite Pairs, where four sets of statements were given, and students had to identify the ones which had opposite meanings.

English_Language

Reasoning (Difficult) :

The level of reasoning was Difficult. Puzzles and Seating Arrangement sets were hard to solve and many students struggled to attempt many questions in this section as Machine Input Output questions set was also of a difficult level.

General Awareness (Easy-Moderate) :

Many questions were there from Banking, Static and Current affairs. The questions based on static awareness were linked to the cities that have been in news lately. The current affairs questions were primarily based on the news and events of September & October month.

Computer Knowledge (Easy) :

The level of this section was very easy. Most of the questions were based on the basics of Software, Internet, Network etc. This section helped student's bag good marks as the questions were easy and students could attempt decent number of question in it.
