Applications are invited from eligible candidates for admission to M.Phil Programme in the University Teaching Departments for the following subjects; Arabic, Biotechnology, Botany, Women's Studies, Chemistry, Commerce, Economics, Journalism, Education, English, Hindi, History, Library and Information Science, Life Sciences (Physiology, Microbiology and Biochemistry), Malayalam and Kerala Studies, Mathematics, Philosophy, Physics, Political Science, Psychology, Russian and Comparative Literature, Sanskrit, Drama & Fine Arts (Drama, Music), Folklore Studies, Statistics, Zoology. Candidates should verify vacancy position prior to the payment of application fee.
Eligibility Criteria
Candidates who possess Master's Degree in the subject concerned or any other relevant subject approved by the Board of Studies of this University or equivalent degree of any other Indian or Foreign Universities with not less than 55% marks are eligible to apply. For OEC/ OBC candidates 5% mark relaxation will be given. In the case of candidates belonging to SC/ST category and teachers under FIP Scheme, a pass in the qualifying examination is sufficient.
Entrance Examination
Admission to M.Phil is based on an entrance examination conducted by the Department and the marks obtained in the qualifying examination. The rank list shall be prepared based on an index prepared, by giving equal weightage to the qualifying examination and entrance examination. The entrance test shall consist of objective and descriptive type questions of 50 marks each, and the duration will be two hours.
The Candidates who secure 50% marks and above in the entrance examination are eligible to consider for admission to M. Phil course. Candidates belonging to SC/ST category, however, need only 35% marks to qualify the entrance examination. Teachers of affiliated colleges (under FIP Scheme) are exempted from the entrance examination.
Out of the total number of seats in each Department 50% shall be reserved for students and 50% for teachers under FIP Scheme. If there is no eligible candidate in any category, the other category shall be considered.
How to Apply:
Applications shall be submitted on line from 17.02.2017 to 03.03.2017 midnight. Please see the link 'fee remittance' in the Admission Website (www.cuonline.ac.in) or the link 'Instant Web payment System' in the Official Website of the University (www.universityofcalicut.info) for remitting fee and submitting online application. The application and entrance examination fee of Rs.300/- (SC/ST Rs.135/) shall be remitted to Calicut University Fund (Select the purpose 'Application and entrance examination fee for M.Phil admission 2017') by e-payment (SBT online / Payment Gateway / SBT e-chalan / Friends / Akshaya e-chalan).
The print out of the application duly attested by a gazetted officer along with e-challan receipt for Rs.300/- (Rs.135/-for SC/ST candidates) towards application and Entrance Examination fee (SC/ST candidates shall also attach a copy of the community certificate along with application) should reach the Head of the University Teaching Departments concerned on or before 08.03.2017, 5.00PM.

Hall Tickets:
The online Registration I.D.No. is mandatory for downloading hall tickets for the entrance examinations. This I.D.No should also be kept and mentioned by the candidate in all future communications. The candidates can download hall tickets for the entrance examination from www.cuonline.ac.in (Please see the link "Entrance Course") 3 days before the date of entrance examination. No individual communication regarding entrance exam will be sent to the candidates and the candidates shall go through the University Website and the University Press release for the latest information.
Defective applications and applications received after the prescribed date, will summarily be rejected and fee once paid will not be refunded or adjusted for any other purpose. Those who get admission for M.Phil will not be permitted to take admission for Ph.D in the same year and an undertaking in this regard has to be submitted.
