College History
|
Women’s College, Calcutta was founded on 2nd July, 1937, by a group of devoted scholar under the guidance of Dr. D. L. De with a view to advancing the cause of higher education among women. The College got affiliation to C.U. on 27th April 1940. Dr. D. L. De was the Principal and Secretary of the college till his death in March 1959.
The college shifted from 204, Cornwallis Street, Kolkata-6 to the present premises at P-29, Kshirode Vidyavinode Avenue, Kolkata-70003 in 1982 at the initiative of the then Principal, Smt. Hena Maitra. The college has been accredited as a B++ grade college by NAAC (National Assessment & Accreditation Council), Bangalore, in the year2007.
The Academic Session extends from 1st July to 30th June. Admission will be made strictly in accordance with norms as prescribed by the Admission Committee. Students seeking admission from Board / H.S. Council must produce their examination certificates, mark sheet, certificates of age and a migration certificate (where necessary) in original.
Admission to the college is granted on the understanding that the student undertakes to conform in all respects to the rules and discipline of the college.

»Music is taught as a subject offered in the General Courses, Student from other college opting for music as an elective subject are allowed to attend classes here with permission of the University of Calcutta. This is the only college in north Kolkata offering this facility.

»There are number of clubs in the college performing different activities. These are -

- Music Club (Ragini)
- Drama Club (Rangamancha)
- Debate Club (Jouktik)
- Handicrafts Club (Srishti)
- Literary Club (Bhabna)
Students must join these clubs to enrich themselves in co- curricular activities.
