The first creáche in Kolkata was started by Smt. Madhusree Dasgupta in the year 1972 in the name of Dolna ( the Bengali word for cradle). The objective was to provide a "home away from home" for the children of working parents. By 1972 the number of working mothers in our city of Kolkata was already growing and they needed custodial care for their children. Dolna Creche and Dolna Day School (affiliated to the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations) have been operating in South Calcutta for the past 40 years now, primarily for the benefit of these working parents.

The institution has never been allowed to grow to an unmanageable size at the cost of the quality of service that is offered. Presently, there are a total number of around 700 children only and a large number of them from the age-group of 3 months to 18 years remain at the creche and day-boarding for the better part of the day while the parents are at work.

Admission Procedure :

Parents are required to fill in a preliminary application for admission, either online or by collecting a hard copy from the school office on any working day between 4 to 6 p.m.

Once the office receives the application, the office will determine whether there are seats available in that particular class and then inform parents of a date on which we would like to meet the parents and the child.

A final day of filling up of forms and payment of necessary fees will follow. The child is not required to be present on that day.

Fees may be deposited at the cash counter at the school between the 1st and 15th of the current month between 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.

Fees may also be deposited within banking hours into our accounts with the ICICI Bank or the IDBI Bank at any of their branches. The relevant account numbers and the procedure of deposit of fees will be advised by the school office.

Pre-School :

Play School, named Playgroup and Lower Nursery for students between 2 and 4 years of age, provides a happy and exciting foundation for learning through play. The programme is designed to encourage the development of students’ linguistic, social, emotional, cognitive and physical abilities.

Primary (Class I to V) :

The subjects of study are :
English, Vernacular, Mathematics, Science, History, Geography.

Secondary (Class VI to X) :

This is a five year programme generally for children in the age-group of 11 to 16 years. The two final years culminate into Board Examinations (ICSE) under the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations.

The subjects of study are :
English, Vernacular, Mathematics, Sciences – Physics, Chemistry and Biology or Environmental Science, History & Civics, Geography, Computer Applications or Economic Applications or Art.

Senior Secondary (Class XI to XII) :

The ISC course is a e-university course and students are being prepared at this tage to go out into the highly competitive world. Along with their preparations for the ISC Examinations a lot of them opt for additional preparation and guidance to equip themfor the Common Admission Tests for Engineering, Medicine, Law, Administrative Services.
