Online submission of application(s) for admission to B.A. (Honours) Course 2017-18

Important Last Date for submission of online applications is 14.06.2017.

Last Date submission of application fees through SBI I-Collect System (using Net Banking / Credit Card / Debit Card) is 17/06/2017. After payment through online please print the e-receipt for further reference.

  • Do not visit the university offices for admission details. All information related to admission procedures is available on this website.
  • An applicant must have completed results at the 10+2 level at the time of application.
  • Incomplete and/or incorrect application shall be liable to be cancelled.
  • For any candidate, increase in marks due to post-publication review/scrutiny after the closing dates of application (14/06/2017) for admissions to B.A (Honours) Courses for the academic session 2017-18, shall NOT be considered, and his/her merit position shall NOT be changed.
  • For a candidate selected provisionally for admission, if it is found at the time of admissions that the marks he/she had stated at the time of application is more than what he/she has actually obtained (as in his/her mark-sheets), then his/her merit position shall be revised accordingly and he/she may be denied admission.
  • Following eligibility and selection procedures are applicable only for students who have completed school (10+2) in India. Foreign students or others who have completed schools (10+2) outside India must check Foreign Students Admission at http://www.jaduniv.edu.in/htdocs/foreign_student.php for application procedure, eligibility and other criteria.
  • CBCS as per UGC guideline will be implemented in B.A. (Hons.) courses from the academic session 2017- 2018.
  • Maximum tenure of studentship for the admitted candidates will be as per the UGC circular no- F.12-1/2015(CPP-II).

** For English - Students who have completed the Cambridge International Examinations General Certificate of Education or of approved British examining bodies as recognized by AIU, with at least two Advanced level subjects, will be eligible to appear in admission test to the BA English Honours class provided that:
  • They have previously completed GCSE with at least 5 subjects
  • One subject in which Advanced (A) level certification has been obtained is English
  • That the average quantitative score obtained in the Advanced level is not less than that prescribed for other applicants.

SC/ST Category

As per circular Nos. BC-16014/1/82-SC dt.06/08/1984 & BCD-1, D.O.12017/11/89-SCD(R.CELL) dt.09/01/1990 and letter No.1510-SCW dt.31/05/2007 from the Government of West Bengal, Scheduled Castes/ Scheduled Tribes of the States other than West Bengal are not entitled to get the benefit of reserved quota in Educational Institutions in West Bengal. Such students may get the benefit of reserve quota if they have domicile certificate of 10 years residency in West Bengal.

OBC-A/OBC-B Category

The candidates who will be provisionally selected under the OBC- A and OBC- B categories must produce an OBC certificate (the date of issue of the certificate should not be earlier than June 2016) issued by the competent authority that clearly indicates (i) the category (A or B) they belong to; (ii) that they do not belong to creamy layer of the society, at the time of counselling/ admission.

OBC-A and OBC-B candidates from the States other than West Bengal are not entitled to get the benefit of reserved quota in Educational Institutions in West Bengal. Such students may get the benefit of reserve quota if they have domicile certificate of 10 years residency in West Bengal.

*For Sports Category

In addition to the above mentioned academic eligibility, the following eligibility conditions under Sports Quota shall apply:
For the sports and games recognised by AIU (list of national university games available on (www.aiuweb.org), the student must have:
  • a record of participation in the Inter-State competition or above not before 01.01.2015
    or
  • secured position 1st/2nd/3rd for individual event/sports or member of Champion / Runners up team for team events / sports / games in Inter-District (open) competition not before 01.01.2015
For Chess: The student must have FIDE rating of 1700 and above along with the criteria specified above is eligible for admission under sports quota.

For Tennis: A student having AITA ranking up to 300 for under 18 years boys/girls or ranking up to 500 for open (Men/Women) category is eligible to apply for admission under sports quota.

Certificates of participation in Sports/Games must be obtained from competent authorities as specified below. Applicant must submit attested photocopies of the certificates along with a copy of online payment receipt at the Office of the Dean and Secretary, Faculty Council of Arts, U.G. Arts Building, Ground Floor, Jadavpur University, Kolkata 700 032, on or before June 29, 2017 (11:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M.).
Inter District / Inter State / National Secretary/Competent authority of the State/National Sports Bodies, viz., I.F.A/B.H.A/C.A.B/A.I.F.F etc.
International Secretary/Competent authority of the National/International Sports Bodies, viz., F.I.F.A/B.C.C.I/I.O.A etc.
Participants in Tournaments/Events organized or certified by bodies other than those mentioned above are not eligible.

*For PD Category

  • Persons with 40% or more disability will only be considered for admission under PD quota under PWD (Equal Opportunity, Protection of Rights and Full Participation) Act, 1995.
  • Candidates applied under this category must submit an attested photocopy of certificate of disability issued by the relevant authority either in person (or by post) along with a photocopy of online payment receipt within June 29, 2017 (5pm) in the Office of the Dean and Secretary, Faculty Council of Arts, Ground Floor, UG Arts Building, Jadavpur University, Kolkata 700032.

Anti-Ragging:
Jadavpur University has accepted in principle that each and every student of the University shall be duty bound during the entire period of studentship with the University to immediately report to the Dean of Students if any ragging is noticed either in University hostel or on University campus.

If any incident of ragging comes to the notice of the Authority, the concerned student shall be given liberty to explain and if his explanation is not found satisfactory, the Authority would expel him/her from the University.

Selection Procedure

For Economics* Marks obtained by the candidates in Mathematics shall be added to the aggregate marks calculated following the guideline laid down in aggregate marks calculation to arrive at the final score. Students shall be ranked according to their final score out of 500.
For History, Sanskrit and Sociology On the basis of aggregate marks obtained in the H.S./Equivalent Examination.
For Comparative Literature* On the basis of a two hour written test.
For Political Science* On the basis of
1) 50% weightage to the aggregate percentage obtained in H.S./Equivelant Examination.
2) 50% weightage to the performance in a written test.
For Bengali* On the basis of
1) 20% weightage of aggregate marks calculated following the guideline laid down in aggregate marks calculation.
2) 50% weightage of marks obtained in Bengali & English taken together in H.S./Equivelant Examination.
3) 130% weightage of marks obtained in Bengali in H.S./Equivelant Examination.
For Philosophy* In accordance with a merit list based on
1) 50% weightage to the aggregate percentage obtained in H.S./Equivelant Examination.
2) 50% weightage to the performance in a written test.
For English* All candidates will have to appear in a two-and-a-half-hour admission test. The test will be in two parts, of 30 + 100 marks respectively. The scripts of only those who obtain the minimum marks set by the Department in the first part will be evaluated in the second part. The merit list will be determined solely on the basis of marks obtained in the second part.
Candidates who have passed the H.S. or it's equivalent examination (under 10+2 system) through a correspondence course under any recognized Board/Council will be required to sit for a Preliminary Qualifying Test (PQT) for admissions to BA (Honours) in Bengali, Economics, History, Sanskrit and Sociology.

PQT for Bengali, Economics, History, Sanskrit and Sociology will be held on 27/6/2017 at 3:00 P.M. in the respective departments.

*Sports Category: (1) Selection under the Sports category for a particular subject of study will be made in order of merit on the basis of the Selection Procedure as given above, for all the games/events taken together. (2) Eligible candidates under the sports category must separately apply for, and if applicable, appear at the Written Test for each subject as they would like to be considered for. (3) Not more than two students will be selected for admission in a particular subject under the sports quota.

PD Category: (1) A provisional merit order of eligible candidates will be prepared on the basis of the academic performance (as per the selection criteria of the concerned department as mentioned above). (2) Eligible candidates will have to appear before an expert committee to be constituted by the University to ascertain the nature of their disability.

Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination/Central Board of Secondary Education/Other Boards Aggregate marks of best 4 subjects, out of 400 marks.

For Economics only: Aggregate marks of best 3 subjects (excluding Mathematics) plus marks of Mathematics (total out of 400).

For Bengali only: Aggregate marks of best 2 subjects (excluding Bengali, English and Computer Science/Application) plus marks of Bengali and English (total out of 400).
