in collaboration with Indian Institute of Cerebral Palsy (IICP); Recognised by RCI.

Notification

Announcement of admission for two year full time B.Ed. (Special Education) for session 2017-19 recognized by Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) offered by Department of Adult, Continuing Education & Extension (DACEE) in the specialization Multiple Disabilities in collaboration with Indian Institute of Cerebral Palsy (IICP), Kolkata.

- Application from & Information Brochure will be available from our website www.jaduniv.edu.in from 30.06.2017.
- Last date of submission of duly filled in Application From at DACEE in person or by Post on or before 21.07.2017 along with a Demand Draft of Rs. 100/- (preferably from S.B.I.) in favour of ‘Jadavpur University’ payable at Kolkata.
- Eligibility : Candidates with at least 50% marks either in the Bachelor’s Degree and/or in Master’s degree in Science/ Social Science/ Humanities, Bachelor’s in Engineering or Technology with specialization in Science and Mathematics with 55% marks or any other qualification equivalent thereto and 40% for SC/ST & 45% for OBC & PD in Science/ Social Science/ Humanities and 45% for SC/ST and 50% for OBC & PD in Engineering or Technology with specialization in Science and Mathematics.
- Reservation as per University norms. Course Fee Rs. 80,000/ (50,000/- in the time of admission and 30,000/- in 2nd year).
- Interview : 24.07.2017 at 11:30 A.M.
- Date of commencement 10.08.2017 (tentatively). Classes will be held at IICP.

General Information

  • This is a five day a week, full time course from 9:30 A.M. - 4:30 P.M. (Mon- Fri) taught mainly in English. There are many lecturers who are non-Bengali and the majority of course material is in English.
  • It prepares teachers to work with children aged from 0-18 years who have Neuromotor disabilities (especially Cerebral Palsy). These include a range of conditions associated primarily with problems of movement caused by damage to the nervous system. These problems arise at birth, during childhood or as a result of accident or trauma to the brain.
  • The most important point to note about this course is that it provides comprehensive information about how to teach students who have physical impairments with other associated difficulties such as mental retardation, speech and communication problems, epilepsy, specific reading and writing problems and sensory deficits.
  • IICP offers this full time two- year course. It is recognized by Rehabilitation Council of India.
  • There is no age-bar.
  • The course will be commencing on 10th August, 2017 and admissions are in progress in Jadavpur University.

Objectives

The B.Ed. in Special Education (Multiple Disabilities) programme aims to develop Special teachers / Educators for children with Neuromotor disabilities (especially cerebral palsy) for various settings including Inclusive schools, Special schools, Open schools and Home Based Education. After completing the said programme the student-teacher will -
  • Acquire knowledge and skills about human development, contemporary Indian education and pedagogy of various school subjects and assessment for learning.
  • Acquire knowledge and skills about nature and educational needs of children with multiple disabilities as well as of few select specific disabilities.
  • Develop conceptual understanding of educational provisions and skills for working with children with multiple disabilities in Special and Inclusive settings.
  • Enhance knowledge and skills for professional development.


Course Structure for Two(2) Years

The course is of two years with 2 semesters in each year. This consists of -
  • Theory : Core courses
  • Theory : Cross Disability and Inclusive Education courses
  • Theory : Disability Specialisation courses
  • Theory : Enhancing Professional Capacities (EPC) / Professional Development courses
  • Practical related to disability
  • Field Engagement / School Internship
Total Weightage / Marks of the course: 2000

Attendance

As par RCI regulations the minimum attendance of student-teachers shall have to be 80% for all course work, 90% for all practicum and 100% for school internship.
