Publication of Provisional Merit List (tentative): 31/07/2018

IMPORTANT:
  • Candidates who have completed results of Masters Course or equivalent in the relevant subject (as specified under B below) and fulfill the eligibility conditions laid down in A below may apply for admission to M.Phil Course for the academic session 2018-19.
  • Current students of M.A. / M.Sc. courses who have appeared or due to appear in final examination of MA/MSc or its equivalent (in the relevant subjects as specified under B below) scheduled to be completed before June 30, 2018, securing at least the minimum percentage of marks as mentioned under A in the aggregate of all marks obtained in 1st, 2nd and 3rd semester examinations (in case of grade, the mid value of the corresponding range of marks should be considered for calculation of relevant parcentage of marks) with at least 40% marks in each course/paper are also eligible to apply. For such candidates the percentage of marks obtained in the aggregate of 1st, 2nd and 3rd semesters examinations will be considered as for eligibility. At the time of counseling / admission those students (if provisionally selected) must submit a proof of completion of M.A/ M.Sc Final Examination, 2018 authenticated by the appropriate authority of his/her college / institute / university in prescribed format (click here). They will be required to submit their mark-sheet positively by September 14, 2018.
  • If at the time of counselling/admission and verification of marks, it is found by the university authority that a student does not satisfy the eligibility criteria, s/he will not be considered for admission, even if he/she is provisionally selected for admission.
    Their provisional admission shall be automatically cancelled if they are not declared to have passed securing at least the minimum percentage of marks as mentioned under A in the aggregate of all marks obtained in 1st, 2nd and 3rd semester examinations after the publication of the results of the fourth semester examination (or corresponding Part in the Annual System). Their provisional admission will be cancelled even if they are declared eligible for Special Supplementary Examination 2018 or any such Examinations as per the Examination Rules of the University concerned.
    A student had entered incorrect marks in his/her on-line application form, then his/her merit position shall be revised accordingly. In case of entering marks more than what he/she has actually obtained (as in his/her marksheets), he/she may be denied admission.

For SC/ST Category:
As per circular Nos. BC-16014/1/82-SC dt.06/08/1984 & BCD-1, D.O.12017/11/89-SCD(R.CELL) dt.09/01/1990 and letter No.1510-SCW dt.31/05/2007 from the Government of West Bengal, Scheduled Castes/ Scheduled Tribes of the States other than West Bengal are not entitled to get the benefit of reserved quota in Educational Institutions in West Bengal.
Such students may get the benefit of reserve quota if they have domicile certificate of 10 years residency in West Bengal.

For OBC-A/OBC-B Category:
A candidate applying for seat reserved for the OBC-A / OBC-B category (wherever applicable) must produce an OBC certificate (the issue date of which should not be earlier than June 2017) issued by the competent authority that clearly indicates (i) the category (A or B) he/she belongs to; (ii) that he/she does not belong to creamy layer of the society. (This certificate must be signed by District Magistrate / Executive Magistrate / Additional District Magistrate / Sub Divisional Magistrate / Tehsildar of the district). Without submission of such an appropriate certificate, the applicant shall NOT be considered for seats reserved for OBC-A/OBC-B category.
OBC-A and OBC-B candidates from the States other than West Bengal are not entitled to get the benefit of reserved quota in Educational Institutions in West Bengal. Such students may get the benefit of reserve quota if they have domicile certificate of 10 years residency in West Bengal.

Anti- Ragging:
  • Jadavpur University has accepted in principle that each and every student of the University shall be duty bound during the entire period of studentship with the University to immediately report to the Dean of Students if any ragging is noticed either in University hostel or on University campus.
  • If any incident of ragging comes to the notice of the Authority, the concerned student shall be given liberty to explain and if his explanation is not found satisfactory, the Authority would expel him/her from the University.

  • Minimum Marks
    Category Minimum marks required in the Master Degree or equivalent in the subject noted in B
    General at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade 'B' in the UGC 7-point scale
    SC / ST / PD / OBC-A / OBC-B at least 50% or its equivalent grade
    Candidates who had obtained their Master's degree prior to 19 th September, 1991 at least 50% or its equivalent grade
  • Relevant Subjects
    M.Phil. Course in Relevant Subjects
    Linguistics Master’s Degree or equivalent in Linguistics
    Oceanography & Coastal Management Master’s Degree or equivalent in Science / Fisheries Science / Economics / Geography
    Women's Studies Master’s Degree or equivalent in any discipline
    Cognitive Science Master’s Degree or equivalent in any discipline (Science / Arts / Engineering / Medicine)

    The number of seats in each school has been calculated in accordance with the UGC Regulations 2016, regarding allocation of Research Supervisor.

Linguistics Selection of candidates will be made in order of merit, ascertained on the basis of performance in an admission test followed by an interview (The weightage will be 70% for written test and 30% for interview). The minimum qualifying marks in the admission test will be 50% for candidates under General category.
