10+2+3 Honours Graduate (in any discipline) with 50% marks in Honours subjects (45% for PD/OBC-A/OBC-B category & 40% for SC/ST category) from the University, or any other university, accepted as equivalent thereto by the Statutory Bodies of the University/norms prescribed by the Regulatory Bodies as applicable subject to such conditions as may be prescribed thereof.

OR

10+2+3 Pass Graduate with 55% marks in aggregate (49.5% for PD/OBC-A/OBC-B category & 41.25% for SC/ST category) from the University, or any other university, accepted as equivalent thereto by the Statutory Bodies of the University/norms prescribed by the Regulatory Bodies as applicable subject to such conditions as may be prescribed thereof.

OR

Bachelor degree in Engineering/Technology/Medical/Law from the University, or any other university, accepted as equivalent thereto by the Statutory Bodies of the University/norms prescribed by the Regulatory Bodies as applicable subject to such conditions as may be prescribed thereof.

OR

10+2+3 Graduate (Honours/Pass) from the University, or any other university, plus Certificate in Library Science with 65% marks (58.5% for PD/OBC-A/OBC-B category & 48.75% for SC/ST category) from a recognized body, accepted by the Statutory Bodies of the University/norms prescribed by the Regulatory Bodies as applicable subject to such conditions as may be prescribed thereof.

  • All applicants must have completed results of Bachelor's and/or Masters Degree course or equivalent degree from any University/Institute recognized by the UGC and completed result in Certificate in Library & Information Science at the time of application.
  • Applications with incomplete results shall be rejected. A candidate shall be denied admission (even if he/she is provisionally selected on the basis of information provided by the applicant) if, at the time of verification of results, it is detected by the Faculty Office/Department of Library and Information Science that his/her results are not complete.
  • For candidates under SC/ST Quota:
    As per circular Nos. BC-16014/1/82-SC dt.06/08/1984 & BCD-1, D.O.12017/11/89-SCD(R.CELL) dt.09/01/1990 and letter No.1510-SCW dt.31/05/2007 from the Government of West Bengal, Scheduled Castes/ Scheduled Tribes of the states other than West Bengal are not entitled to get the benefit of reserved quota in educational institutions in West Bengal unless they can produce Domicile Certificate for residing in West Bengal for at least 10 years issued by the competent authority.
  • For candidates under OBC Quota:
    The candidates who will be provisionally selected under the OBC- A and OBC-B categories must produce an OBC certificate (the date of issue of the certificate should not be earlier than June 2017) issued by the competent authority that clearly indicates (i) the category (A or B) they belong to; (ii) that they do not belong to creamy layer of the society, at the time of counselling/ admission.
    OBC-A and OBC-B candidates of the states other than West Bengal are not entitled to get the benefit of reserved quota in educational institutions in West Bengal, unless they can produce a domicile certificate of 10-year residency issued by competent authority.
  • For Candidates under PD category:
    Persons with 40% or more disability will only be considered for admission under PD category under PWD (Equal Opportunity, Protection of Rights and Full Participation) Act, 1995.
    Candidates who will apply under PD category must submit an attested photocopy of certificate of disability issued by the competent authority along with a photocopy of bank challan within 10th May, 2018 (5:00 P.M.) at the Office of the Dean and the Secretary, Faculty Council of Arts, Ground Floor, UG Arts Building, Jadavpur University, Kolkata 700032. The self-attested photocopy of the certificate and bank challan may also be sent by post. The last date of receiving the certificates by post is 10th May, 2018.

    Applicants under PD category will have to appear before an expert committee to be constituted by the University. The date will be notified later.
  • Jadavpur University has accepted in principle that each and every student of the University shall be duty bound during the entire period of studentship with the University to immediately report to the Dean of Students if any ragging is noticed either in University hostel or on University campus.
  • If any incident of ragging comes to the notice of the Authority, the concerned student shall be given liberty to explain and if his explanation is not found satisfactory, the Authority would expel him/her from the University.

Selection will be made on the basis of a Written Admission Test.

Syllabus and Pattern of the Entrance Examination:
The Entrance Examination paper will be of an objective type consisting of 100 multiple-choice questions. The paper will carry 100 marks and will be of 11/2 hours duration. The standard of the paper will be of the level of knowledge as expected of a graduate of any faculty of a recognized University. There will be no negative marking. The paper will include questions covering the following fields of knowledge:

N.B.: Candidates are advised to follow the pattern of questions of IAS/ WBCS Preliminary Examination.
For Higher Secondary or equivalent On the basis of:
  • W.B.C.H.S.E. : Best of 4 subjects excluding marks of Environmental Studies/Environmental Education/Environmental Science (out of 400 marks).
  • Central Board of Secondary Education : Best of 4 subjects (out of 400 marks).
  • Council for the Indian School Certificate : Best of 4 subjects (out of 400 marks).
  • Other Boards : Best of 4 subjects (out of 400 marks).
For Honours Graduates On the basis of aggregate of all marks obtained in Honours paper only
For Pass Graduates On the basis of aggregate of all marks obtained
For Certificate Course On the basis of aggregate of all marks obtained
