Admission to One-Year Post Graduate Diploma in Business Laws (PGDBL)

NUJS is one of the Premiere Law University in India. With Globalization. Liberalization and the ever changing and evolving national and international regulatory framework, knowledge and exposure of laws affecting domestic and international businesses is critical in thoroughly understanding the underpinnings of the business, nationally and globally. It is with this intent that NUJS has started One Year Post Graduate Diploma Programme in Business Laws for the entrepreneurs, executives working in the corporate sector and others. Larsen & Toubro, one of the leading global corporate brands is the first recipient of the programme.

The course is conducted through a flexible pedagogy and contact classes are held at the NUJS campus. Experts, in their fields, drawn from all over the country along with the NUJS faculty are involved in teaching the Diploma students.

Contact Sessions / Subjects

The programme will be conducted over a period of one year. The course comprises of eleven subjects. The programme shall have five Contact Sessions (each session having 4 weekends - Saturday – half day and Sunday – full day) spread over one year. The coverage in each Contact Session will be as follows:

Rules and Regulations of the Programme

    • Intake – 40 (Forty)
    • Eligibility for Admission - For the Post-Graduate Diploma in Business and Law, the basic requirement is a Bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognised University.
    • Course of Study - The syllabus for the course of study will be prescribed from time to time.
    • Schedule for the Classes - The entire course shall be taught in four Contact Sessions during the year. The first Contact Session shall start from first week of August 2016. All the sessions shall be held at NUJS, Kolkata.
    • Medium of Instruction and Examination - The medium of instructions and examinations shall be English.
    • Attendance – Candidates are required to attend not less than 2/3rd of the lectures in each subject failing which a candidate shall be debarred from sitting in the examination for the respective subject/s. A repeat examination can be written by the candidate after registering for the repeat paper after payment of requisite fees of Rs. 1,000.00 (Rupees One thousand only) per subject. The Vice Chancellor of the University may, at his discretion, condone the deficiency in attendance, provided that representation supported by documentary evidence is submitted.
    • Evaluation–The evaluation process of courses consists of:
      • End Session Examination consisting of 40 marks.
      • Assignments: Every candidate is required to submit an assignment/project in each of the prescribed papers. This consists 40 marks.
      • Class participation: 20 marks
      • Dissertation: Every candidate is required to submit a dissertation at the end of the course. This consists 200 marks, broken as Written submission-150 and presentation-50.
    • Passing Marks: 50% in each paper including dissertation.
    • Discipline: The Vice Chancellor of the University has the power to strike off the name of any student from the roll of the University.

    • Course Duration: One Year. However every student has to complete the course within 3 years from the date of registration.
    • Repeat Examination – Failed students or debarred students because of shortage of attendance shall be allowed to appear in the repeat the examination of the subject(s) subject to the payment of fees Rs. 1,000.00 per subject and for Foreign Nationals/NRI candidates US $50 per subject. The students having no attendance in any subject(s) shall not be allowed to appear in the repeat examination. Such students have to attend the classes of the subject(s) in the next academic year(s) and appear in the examination subject to payment of fees of Rs.2000.00 per subject including the exam fees. Foreign National/NRI candidates have to pay US $ 100 per subject.

Guidelines for Payment of Course Fee for Foreign National/NRI Candidates

The foreign/NRI candidates must make the payment of fee either by way of demand draft US $ 1200/- (United States Dollar One Thousand Two Hundred only)drawn in favour of "WBNUJS PGDBL" payable at Kolkata, or in alternative may make the wire transfer of US $ 1200/- (United States Dollar One Thousand Two Hundred only) to "WBNUJS PGDBL" account. The details of the account for wire transfer are given below. Any cost involved in the payment of fee must be incurred by the candidates. The filled in application form along with the demand draft/wire transfer receipt must be sent to the Course Coordinator, PGDBL. Mention your name and contact number in the backside of the demand draft.

Note: Foreign or NRI candidate may also deposit the fee by demand draft in Indian rupees equivalent to the prescribed fees in US $. The certificate or any other relevant document showing the conversion rate (from US $ to Indian Rupees) on the relevant date shall be attached.
