Educational Trips

The college organises both, one day picnics, and excursions to places of historical interest atleast once in a year. Students are accompanied by members of the Teaching Faculty.

Counselling Cell

To help the students overcome the pressures of competition, and of life in general, a counselling cell is organised, where guidance and help is provided for them to deal with personal, social and vocational problems. Several members of the teaching faculty are involved in this endeavour. Guidance on career opportunities and employment opportunities is also provided.

Student Aid Fund

To ensure that economically backward students are not deprived of education for want of money, scholarships are awarded to SC, ST and BC students. Meritorious students are entitled to merit scholarships. A maximum of 75% attendance is the criterion for availing this opportunity. Applications can be collected from the college office and should be submitted before the month of August.

Seminars & Extension Lectures

Seminars are arranged at regular intervals to provide an opportunity for the students to interact and exchange views with eminent Professors and other academics. This helps to expand the horizon of young minds beyond the limits of syllabi and curriculum.

The department of Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics arranged a lecture on "Food Neophobia" by Dr. Koushik Adhikari, Assistant Professor from Kansas State University ,USA.

Sports

The Department of Physical Education, headed by Ms Deva Krupavaram came into existence in the year 1976.She headed the department from 1976 to 2009. Sprawling ground in the campus enable the students to play outdoor games like Cricket, Tenni-Koit, Lawn Tennis, Basket-Ball, Volley-Ball, Kho-Kho,Khabaddi, Soft-Ball, Hand-Ball, Weight Lifting etc. The Department also provides facilities for indoor games like Chess, Carroms, Table-Tennis, Shuttle, Badminton etc. A well equipped Gym has stateā€“of-the-art equipment and exercising gadgets. Training in Martial Arts like Judo is also available for interested students. Our students have represented the college in all the above mentioned games at the Inter Collegiate, All India Inter University, National and Inter National Levels and won laurels in the form of Gold & Silver Medals.

NCC

While acceding that class-room education is of paramount importance, KGCW recognises that much more is necessary for the complete development of personality. This is where the NCC helps young students to discipline themselves. NCC is a 3 year training course and earns the cadet a Certificate. NCC cadets are entitled to reserved seats in higher education courses. Training programmes in First Aid, Home Nursing, Para-Sailing, Trekking, Parades etc. are conducted in the morning hours, before the regular college timings, so as to facilitate student participation. Outstanding cadets are sent abroad on Youth Exchange Programmes. The College has a fairly large NCC unit with 200 cadets. One of our NCC Cadets was selected from Andhra Pradesh for a Youth Exchange programme to Singapore and in Canada. 50 cadets participated in blood donation camp in 2010 organised by NSS and Youth Red Cross. 50 cadets participated in Pulse Polio camp.

NSS

Dr. Sujatha Ratnakar, Reader in Zoology and Ms. S. Saraswathi, Head, Dept. of History were the programme Officers from 2005 to 2008. Dr. M. Anitha Redy , Reader in Commerce was the programme officer from 2008 to 2011. Currently Ms. Varalakshmi and Ms. Akshatha are the programme officers.

Red Cross

The Red Cross has established a new chapter in Kasturba Gandhi College in the year 2000 and one of our students had the distinction of being selected to represent India at the Asia-Pacific Youth Exchange Programme at Seoul, South Korea in August 2002.

OGA Platinum Jubliee Cultural Center (OGA PJ CC)

OGA Platinum Jubliee Cultural Center was established to commemorate the platinum Jubliee Celebrations of the Osmania Graduates' Association with the main objective of identifying, promoting and providing a platform for the talents of the students and staff of the educational institutions in the areas of Music, Dance, Threatre Arts and Fine Arts.

Named after the illustrious lady who stood by Mahatma Gandhi in thought and deed, Kasturba Gandhi College for Women was established in 1973 by the Osmania Graduates' Association under the patronage of the Exhibition Society. Since then, the college has come a long way adding block by block over the years in its sprawling campus, spread over 3.85 acres of land in centrally located Marredpally, Secunderabad. In 1998 the college celebrated its Silver Jubilee, marking the occasion by laying foundation for yet another building, the Silver Jubilee Block. Starting with a modest student strength of 175 in the year 1973, the college now has a strength of about 2,800 students(UG & PG) with 90 teaching faculty, 71 non-teaching faculty. The college imparts value-based education to women to meet the modern day challenges.

In addition to the conventional courses at the undergraduate level in Arts, Science and Commerce, the college has introduced vocational courses with the support of UGC in B.Sc. with Clinical Nutrition & Dietetics and in B.Com. with Tax Procedures and Practices. To keep pace with changing times, the college has introduced Biotechnology, Microbiology, Genetics and has also moved into the computer era by offering B.Sc. Computer Science and B.Com Computers. B.A with Mathematics, Economics, Statistics has been introduced in 2011. The English, Commerce and Science departments are equipped with excellent lab facilities. The college introduced M.Com., MCA, MBA, M.Sc.(CS), M.Sc(IS), PG Diploma in Nutrition and Dietetics and the most recent ( in 2011) being M.Sc (Organic Chemistry). Post Graduate courses presently offered are M.Com., MCA, MBA, M.Sc.(Organic Chemistry) and PG Diploma in Nutrition and Dietetics.

Apart from the regular teaching schedule, the college undertakes remedial classes for academically backward students of SC and ST categories under the sponsorship of UGC. The college has carved a niche for itself in terms of maintaining high standards. This is reflected in the consistently good academic results in all faculties. Many students have been awarded Osmania University Gold Medals and LN Gupta Memorial Gold Medals over the years. The college has also maintained an outstanding record in the sports arena, with a good number of national and international participations and achievements.

A committed management, competent principals, well-accomplished teachers including several doctorates and dedicated non-teaching staff strive together to ensure overall development of students. In-house enrichment programme - Equip to Excel for teachers and Develop to Deliver for non-teaching staff, keep them refreshed and motivated to deliver better year after year.
