Higher Secondary (Plus Two)

Courses offered for Higher Secondary:

  • Class XI & XII Arts (Morning Shift and Day Shift)
  • Class XI & XII Science (Day Shift only)
  • Class XI & XII Commerce (Day Shift only)

The Higher Secondary Courses conducted by the College is affiliated to
The Meghalaya Board of School Examination. The duration of the course is Two years.

Course Eligibility
Class XI & XII Arts (Morning Shift)  Required to have passed Class X Board Examination
With a minimum of 42% marks in aggregate.
Class XI & XII Arts (Day Shift) Required to have passed Class X Board Examination
With 50% marks in aggregate.
Class XI & XII  (Science) Required to have passed Class X Board Examination and securing 60 % marks in Mathematics and Science. This is relaxed to 50 % for tribals.
Class XI & XII (Commerce) Required to have passed Class X Board Examinations with 45 % marks in Mathematics and 50 % marks in English.

Admission Procedure for Higher Secondary Course:

Application forms are issued immediately after the announcement of the Meghalaya Secondary School Leaving Certificate Examination results.
Submission of the application form must be accompanied by :

  • An attested copy of the mark sheet of the Class X Board Examination.
  • A recent passport size photograph of the student.

The applications are screened by the Admission Committee constituted by the College. Selected students are notified and are given an Admission form to be duly filled in and submitted at the Student Service Centre in the college. The Admission form is required to be attached with the following enclosures:

  • A testimonial or character certificate from the principal of the school last attended.
  • An attested copy of the mark sheet of the last examination passed.
  • An original Transfer Certificate from the school last attended.
  • An original Migration Certificate for students passing from Boards other than Meghalaya Board of School Education.
  • Scheduled Caste/ Scheduled Tribe Certificate.
  • Catholic students to submit a Xerox copy of their Baptism Certificate countersigned by their parish priest.
  • A Xerox copy of parent’s undertaking.

Spot admission is also practiced to those students with exceptionally good academic records.

Course Eligibility
B.A.(Morning Shift)
For General Course Only
  • Required to secure a minimum of 42 % marks in aggregate at the Class XII Arts/ Science/Commerce Board examinations.
  • Those from other Boards and NIOS are required to secure at least 50 % marks in aggregate at the Class XII Examination.
B.A (Day Shift)
For Honours.
  • An Arts student securing a minimum of 45 % marks in aggregate at the Qualifying Board Examination and 45 % marks in the subject wished to offer as Honours are eligible to appear for the Entrance Test/ Interview in the subject of interest.
  • An Arts/ Science/Commerce student securing 50% marks in the aggregate are eligible to appear for the Entrance tests in subject not offered at the Class XII Board Examination.
  • To opt for English Honours  students are required to secure 60% marks in General English and 50 % marks in aggregate at the Qualifying Board Examination to be eligible to appear for the Entrance test in English.
  • Students from Boards other than Meghalaya Board of School Education are required to secure a minimum of 60 % marks in aggregate to be eligible for appearing in the Entrance tests.


Degree Science

Bachelor of Science (Honours and General)

B.Sc (General Course) Required to have passed the Class XII Science Board Examination.
B.Sc (Honours)
  • Required to have passed a minimum of 45% marks in the aggregate at the Class XII Science Board examination and 45% marks in the subject desired to offer as Honours.
  • To opt for Honours in Mathematics students are required to secure 60% in Mathematics at the Class XII Board Examination.
  • For Honours in Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics, Students are required to secure 50% marks in aggregate at the Class XII Science Board examination.


Degree Commerce

Bachelor of Commerce (Honours and General)

  • Required to have passed the Class XII Board Examination in Commerce with a minimum of 45% aggregate marks in Theory papers.
  • Those from Class XII Science are required to secure 45% marks in aggregate and must have offered and passed Mathematics at the Board examination.


Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics

Bachelor of Home Science(Honours and General)

  • A First or Second Division Arts or Science student with a minimum of 45% marks in Home Science Theory paper and an aggregate of 45% at the Class XII Board examination are eligible to apply.
  • A Science student who had not opted for Home Science at the Class XII Board Examination but have secured an aggregate of 50 % marks is eligible to apply.
  • Admitted students are required to attend the Compulsory Certificate Course in Home Science.


Bachelor of Computer Applications

Required to clear the Class XII Board Examination with 50% marks in aggregate.

Run by the Sisters of Our Lady of the Missions or RNDM (Religieux Notre Dame des Missions), an international religious congregation, Saint Mary’s College, Shillong, a Catholic Church Institution of higher learning was established in 1937. Historically, the life of Saint Mary’s College has its umbilical cord connected to the parent institute of Saint Mary’s Convent which in turn had its headquarter in Chittagong, Bangladesh.

The Role and Objectives of the College prepared and framed by the vast province for Saint Mary’s Convent/ College in 1935-37, adopted by subsequent councils of the re- delineated Indian Province were documented and registered as the Memorandum of Association of the Congregation under Act XXI of 1860 in July, 1973.

In 1936, a team of dedicated educationists in the persons of (L) Mother M. St. Eusebius Ryder, (L) Mother M. Cathrine Bologna, (L) Mother M. St. Munchin and (L) Mother M. St. Candide were missioned to carry out the spadework, and to establish the college on a firm footing.
