Admission Procedure

Students are required to register along with the completed application forms. A self addressed stamped envelope should be submitted along with the application. Candidates from SC/ST/Christian Adi Dravida Communities need not pay any fees for registration. After registration, communication will be sent to those students who have been provisionally selected. The provisionally selected student has to attend an interview along with her parents on the date and time specified in the intimation card. If the student fails to attend the interview on the date and time mentioned, the provisional selection is automatically cancelled. All admissions are provisional, subject to approval by the University of Madras.

The following certificates should be produced in original at the time of interview.

• The Tamil Nadu Higher Secondary Course (or its equivalent) Mark certificate (Original +2 photocopies attested by a Gazetted Officer) for UG Courses and provisional Certificate or Degree Certificate for PG courses.
• UG Courses: Candidates who have passed an examination other than the Tamil Nadu Higher Secondary/CBSE/ICSE/National Open School should produce an eligibility certificate from the University of Madras.
• PG Courses: Candidates from any University other than the University of Madras should produce eligibility certificate from the University of Madras.
• Transfer Certificate.
• Conduct Certificate.
• Medical Certificate from the Nearest Government General Hospital( required if the student belongs to SC/ST)
• Community Certificate (One photocopy Attested by a Gazetted Officer) if the student belongs to BC/ MBC/SC/ ST.
• Income Certificate of Parent from a person not below the rank of Tashildar (if the Student belongs to SC/ST/Christian Adi Dravida)

Eligibility Criteria

Library

The library is housed in a large hall stocked with a large variety of reading material. The Library has a total collection of about 18,000 books and provides access to more than 100 journals and magazines. INFLIBNET facility which provides access to a number on line articles is also available. Each Department has a department library. Photocopying facility is provided for the benefit of Student and Faculty. The College has an institutional membership with the British Council Library, The American Library (USCG) and University of Madras which the students and faculty make use of to widen their knowledge in diverse fields.

Laboratory

Expensive equipment have been installed in the laboratories for the benefit of the students. Great care must be taken in handling equipment. Work tables and sanitary fittings should be kept absolutely clean at all times. All breakages and losses must be reported to the concerned staff in charge immediately.

Computer Lab

We have well equipped air-conditioned Computer Laboratory which has Pentium servers and nodes. Latest software with internet connection are also available.

Boarding and Lodging

The College arranges for clean boarding and lodging facilities for outstation students.

Canteen

There is a canteen within the campus, which serves healthy and tasty food, in a hygienic manner, at reasonable rates. Students are requested to return the plates and spoons to the canteen after use and not leave around the campus.

Telephone

A pay telephone facility is available next to the office. (Students are requested to use it only during lunch break and only in an emergency).

Identity Cards

Each student of the college is expected to possess an identity card with her photograph affixed on it, duly attested by the Principal. They are advised to keep the card with them always and use them for getting concessional tickets to travel by bus, rail or air, to become a member of public libraries or for the receipt of payment of scholarship, etc. Identity cards for the first year students will be made in the college. Students will have to wear the ID card inside the college premises.

Issue of Certificates

For the issue of any certificate, an application has to be made giving details about the student. A prior notice of two days is necessary for the issue of a certificate. On completion of their entire course (Graduate or Post-Graduate) students are expected to collect their original certificates including the Transfer certificate from the office. A student will be furnished with a T.C. on application, if she applies within 5 working days of the term succeeding her leaving the college. Applications made after that will attract a search fee.

MJC Alumnae

Every student who passes out of the college is encouraged to become a member of the Alumnae Association. We intend to shortly bring out a newsletter of then Alumnae Association.

College Office

Request for certificates, testimonials and other documents requiring the Principal’s signature should be addressed to the Principal and submitted in the College office. The Principal will take into consideration the reports of the departments when issuing conduct and attendance certificates.

Dr.MGR-Janaki College was founded in the year 1996 under the aegis of Mrs. Janaki Ramachandran, who wished to start a college to pay a tribute to her husband Late Bharat Ratna Dr. M.G. Ramachandran, former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.

Under the dedicated leadership of our Founder Correspondent Dr.Latha Rajendran and Founder Late Mr.M.Rajendran the college grew from its humble beginnings to become a premier institution producing rank holders in multidisciplines. Due to the able guidance of illustrious personalities like Late Mr.N.P.V.Ramasamy Udayar, Late Dr.N.C.Raghavachari, Dr.Jeppiaar and with the support of well wishers, the college has had a qualitative and quantitative progress.

The college produces students who are achievers in diverse fields such as academics, sports and cultural activities. The students are well prepared to face life, to create opportunities rather than seeking it and succeed by the progressive realization of predetermined goals.

All the courses offered by the College are affiliated to the University of Madras. This college is approved vide G.O. MS 431 dated 12th June 1996, by the Education, Science and Technology Department of the Government of Tamil Nadu. The College has been accredited by NAAC with a CGPA of 2.86 out of 4 with the grade of GOOD (B)
