Elligibility Criteria for Admission

  • A student shall be allowed to take admission in the HONOURS COURSE and PROGRAM COURSE of B.A./B.Sc. if he/she/transgender has passed in at least four (04) subjects excluding Environmental Studies with English as compulsory subject in Higher Secondary (10+2) Examination held by West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education or any other examination which is recognized by the University as equivalent there to.
  • Provided that a candidate who has obtained – (a) 55% marks in aggregate or (b) 50% marks in aggregate with 60% marks in a subject in the last qualifying examination shall be eligible to apply for Honours course in that subject. Admission shall, however, be on merit and availability of seats.
  • It may be noted that in matter of eligibility 49.5% and above shall be equal to 50%; 54.5% and above shall be equal to 55%; and 59.5% marks and above shall be equal to 60%.
  • With regard to SC/ST candidates, the minimum marks of eligibility shall be as per rules of the State Government. An SC/ST candidate getting admission should have obtained in the previous examination, qualifying marks not lower by more than 25% of the marks obtained by the last candidate of the general category.
  • With regard to OBC-A/OBC-B candidates, the minimum marks of eligibility shall be as per rules of the State Government. An OBC-A/OBC-B candidate getting admission should have obtained in the previous examination, qualifying marks not lower by more than 10% of the marks obtained by the last candidate of the general category
  • As per the rules of the State Government SC/ST candidates migrating from other states will be treated as general candidates.
  • A candidate shall be allowed to pursue B.A./B.Sc. Program Course if he/she/transgender has passed the qualifying examination in Vocational Stream subjects.
  • For admission to the Under Graduate Course there should not be a gap of more than 3 years between the year of Higher Secondary Examination and the year of admission to Under Graduate Course of study.
  • Candidates may note that the admission to any Course is provisional. If a candidate fails to fulfill the eligibility criteria laid down by the University of North Bengal, the admission shall stand cancelled at any stage.
  • The followings are the criteria for the preparation of the Merit Panel in Honours Course:
    Merit = (E + S + T2)/4 for candidates who have applied in those Honours Program Course Subject which the candidates studied in the previous qualifying examination. (where S = Marks in the subject opted for Honours; E = Marks in English; T2 = Best Marks of other two subjects excluding Environmental Science).
    Merit = (E + T3)/4 for candidates who did not have subject opted for Honours Program Course in his / her previous qualifying examination. (where E = Marks in English; T3 = Best Marks of other three Subjects Excluding EVS).
  • The followings is the criteria for the preparation of the Merit Panel in Program Course:
    Merit = (E + T3)/4 (where E = Marks in English; T3 = Best Marks of other three Subjects Excluding EVS).
  • Those students who have credentials in sports and games shall be given due weightage in the admission to UG Courses. Those sports and games shall be considered for weightage which are affiliated to Sports Board, University of North Bengal.
    The following sports and games shall be considered for weightage:
    Athletics (Men and Women)
    Badminton (Men and Women)
    Cricket (Men)
    Football (Men)
    Handball (Men and Women)
    Kho-Kho (Men and Women)
    Kabaddi (Men and women)
    Table Tennis (Men and women)
    Volleyball (Men)
    The categories of students who shall be considered for such weightage are as follows:
    Position Holder at State Level Competition;
    Participation at National level Competition;
    Position Holder at National Level Competition;
    Participation at International level Competition; and
    Position Holder at International level Competition.
  • NOTE: Weightage shall be given to students if he/she has participated or held position at International Level Competition in any games and sports.
