ACADEMIC CRITERIA FOR ADMISSION (University Rules in brief):-

According to the rules of the University of Calcutta, the minimum marks in HS/equivalent is 50% in aggregate (top-4) and 45% in the subject (or in the related subject) in which he/she wants to apply for honours course.

A candidate, who fails to secure 50% in aggregate but obtained at least 55% in the subject (or in the related subject) in HS/equivalent, will be eligible for apply for honours.

If a subject is not studied in the HS/equivalent but is intended to be taken as honours, the applicant must obtain least 50% in aggregate (top-4) in the qualifying examinations.

SC/ST candidates will be eligible to apply for honours if he/she obtains at least 40% in aggregate (top-4) or 40% in the subject (or in the related subject) in HS/equivalent.

If a reserved category candidate secures a score high enough to be considered as general category otherwise, he/she must be admitted in a general category seat.

As per the rules of the Govt. of West Bengal, for taking admission in B.A. (Hons.) or in B.Sc. (Hons.) or in B.Com. (Hons.) courses, “the SC or ST candidates who are being admitted should have obtained a qualifying marks in the previous examination which is not lower by more than 25% from the marks obtained by the last candidate in the general category. However, in any case, such a candidate obtaining marks lower than the marks as prescribed by the regulations of the University for admission to the relevant courses will not be eligible for admission. The candidates included in the general merit list will not be counted towards the reserved quota.”

A candidate, who appeared but could not obtain pass mark in a subject at the previous qualifying examination, shall not be allowed to take up that subject in the Degree (Honours / General) Course.

Again, for eligibility of admission, students must fulfill all relevant rules of the W.B. Council of H.S. Education and the University of Calcutta.

As per the University Guideline, some Special Conditions for Admission to Honours Courses are as follows:

(i) A candidate shall be allowed to take up Honours in Economics if he/she has passed Mathematics at the HS Examination (10+2) conducted by WBCHSE or its equivalent examination in Mathematics/Business Mathematics. Students who have passed Business Economics including Business Mathematics in HS (10+2) level from WBCHSE are not eligible for admission in the Honours Course in Economics. Mathematics is a compulsory pass-subject.

(ii) A candidate shall be allowed to take up Honours in Mathematics if he/she has passed in Mathematics at the previous qualifying examination. A candidate who has passed in Business Mathematics is not eligible for admission to Mathematics Honours Course.

(iii) A candidate shall be allowed to take up Honours in Chemistry if he/she has passed in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics at the previous qualifying examination.

(iv) In order to take up Honours in Education, the subjects Psychology / Philosophy / Mathematics / Sociology / Economics / Political Science / History are to be treated as allied subject.

(v) In order to take up Honours in Philosophy, the subject Psychology be treated as allied subject.

(vi) For B.Com. Honours Course in Accounting & Finance, the word “subject” or “allied subject” shall mean Accountancy, Business Economics including Business Mathematics, Business Organization, Mathematics, Business Mathematics, Economics, Statistics, Business Studies, Office Practice & Secretarial, Financial Accounting, Elements of Cost Accountancy & Auditing, Book Keeping, Commerce, Cost Accountancy & Principle of Management.

A candidate shall be allowed to take up the subject(s) under Heading “A” if he/she passed the subject(s) under Heading “B” at the previous qualifying examination (see below):

ACADEMIC CRITERIA FOR ADMISSION (College Rules):-

Cut-off marks:

  • For BA Hons/Gen (day section): Top-4 = 200 for Un Res. & 180 for Res. SC/ST
  • For BSc Hons/Gen (only day section): Top-4 = 188 for Un-Res. & 168 for Res. SC/ST
  • For BCom Hons/Gen (only day section): As per the CU norms.
  • For BA Gen (morning section): As per the CU norms.
  • For English Hons: Over and above (i), minimum marks in English = 65% for Un-Res. & 60% for Res. SC/ST
  • For Mathematics Hons: Over and above (ii), minimum marks in Math = 60% for Un-Res. & 55% for Res. SC/ST
  • For Geography Hons: Over and above (ii), minimum marks in English = 50% for Un-Res. & 45% for Res. SC/ST
  • For Bengali Hons: Over and above (i), minimum marks in Bengali = 50% for Un-Res. & 45% for Res. SC/ST
  • For Pol. Sc. Hons: Over and above (i), minimum marks in Pol. Sc. = 55% for Un-Res. & 50% for Res. SC/ST
  • For Philosophy Hons: Over and above (i), minimum marks in Philosophy = 50% for Un-Res. & 45% for Res. SC/ST
  • WBSCVET pass outs are not eligible for honours courses. They can apply for BA general course only, after satisfying the above mentioned criteria for the same.

Cut-off ‘passing year’:

  • For day section: 2019 & 2018
  • For morning section: 2019, 2018, 2017 & 2016
