ADMISSION RULES & REGULATIONS: 2022-2023

  • A candidate who has passed the Higher Secondary (10+2) or its equivalent Examination with at least 35 percent marks is eligible to seek admission to the Semester-wise Three Year B.A./B.Sc./B.Com General Course of Studies provided the applicant has also passed in English having full marks of not less than 100.
  • Candidates who have passed with atleast 35 percent marks the Higher Secondary (10+2) Vocational Examination conducted by West Bengal Council of Vocational Education and Training shall be eligible to seek admission to the Semester-wise Three Year B.A./B.Com. General Course of Studies taking the subjects of Humanities and Commerce only.
  • Candidates having passed the Higher Secondary Examination (10+2) in Business and Commerce with atleast 35 percent marks shall be eligible for admission to the Semester-wise Three Year B.Com General Course of Studies. Further he is required to pass any of the subjects as mentioned below:
    Accountancy, Business Economics including Business Mathematics, Business Organisation, Mathematics, Economics, Statistics, Commerce, Accounts, Business Studies, Financial Accounting, Office and Secretarial Practice, Elements of Cost Accountancy and Auditing, Book Keeping, Business Mathematics, Cost Accountancy & Principle of Management, Commercial Law and preliminaries of Auditing, Costing and Taxation.
  • Candidates who have passed Higher Secondary Examination (10+2) in Science Stream are also eligible for admission to the Semester-wise Three Year B.A./B.Com Honours and General Courses besides B.Sc. Honours and General Courses
  • Candidates opting for Practical based subjects are required to get passed both in theoretical and practical papers at the Higher Secondary Examination.
  • A candidate shall be allowed to take up Honours in Economics if passed in Mathematics/Business Mathematics at the Higher Secondary Examination (10+2) conducted by the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education or its equivalent examination. Students who have passed Business Economics including Business Mathematics in Higher Secondary (10+2) level from West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education are also eligible for admission in the Honours Course in Economics.
  • No candidate shall be allowed for admission after a lapse of more than 5 years from the year of passing previous qualifying examination or discontinuation of recognized regular Course of Studies after passing the previous qualifying examination.
  • For the purpose of determining eligibility for admission to the Honours Course, aggregate marks shall be calculated by adding the marks scored in the subject plus the marks scored in top-four subjects in order of marks secured by the candidate. For admission to General course only the marks scored in top-four subjects in order of marks secured by the candidate will be considered. Marks in compulsory Environmental Education/Studies shall not be taken into account for calculation of aggregate marks. If the subject Environmental Science is studied as an elective subject of 100 marks, it may be taken into account for the purpose of determining the aggregate marks.
  • (a) A candidate taking up Honours Course in a subject must have obtained:
    A minimum of 50% marks in the aggregate and 45% marks in the subject or related subject at the previous qualifying examination
    Or
    55% marks in the subject or related subject at the previous qualifying examination (only for B.Com Honours Courses)
    Or
    50% marks in the aggregate when the candidate has not studied the subject in his/her previous qualifying examination provided all other clauses are satisfied (Only for B.A./B.Sc Honours Courses)
  • (b) However, candidates belonging to the Schedule Caste or Schedule Tribe Community taking up Honours Course of Study must have obtained a minimum of 40% marks in the aggregate or 40% marks in the subject or related subjects at the previous qualifying examination, as the case may be.
  • Related Subjects considered for Honours:
    (a) For B.Com Honours Course in “Accounting and Finance”, the word “Subject” or “related subject” shall mean the following:
    Accountancy, Business Economics including Business Mathematics, Business Organisation, Mathematics, Business Mathematics, Economics, Statistics, Business Studies, Office and Secretarial Practice, Financial Accounting, Elements of Cost Accountancy and Auditing, Book Keeping, Commerce, Cost Accountancy & Principle of Management, Commercial Law and preliminaries of Auditing, Costing and Taxation.
    (b) Education: The subject Psychology/Philosophy/Mathematics/Sociology/Economics/Political Science/History/Statistics/Physics/Chemistry/Biology be treated as related subject.
    (c) Philosophy: the subject Psychology/Mathematics/Education/Sociology/Political Science be treated as related subject.
    (d) Mathematics: A candidate who have passed in business mathematics is not eligible for admission to the Mathematics Honours Course.
    (e) Economics: the subject Mathematics/Business Mathematics/Business Economics including Business Mathematics are treated as related subjects. Candidates of Economics Honours have to take up Mathematics as one of the elective subjects.
  • Reservation Policy for admission in Semester-wise Three Year B.A./B.Sc. (Honours/General) courses of studies shall be guided by the West Bengal State Higher Educational Institutions (Reservation in Admission), Act, 2013 and the West Bengal State Higher Educational Institutions (Reservation in Admission) Rules, 2014.
  • Students who have passed the Higher Secondary (10+2) Examination or its equivalent from the All India Boards/Councils (i.e. CBSE, ISC and National Institute of Open Schooling) need not require to submit Migration Certificate for getting Registration under Calcutta University.
