Minimum Eligibility Criteria for Admission for the Academic Session 2022-2023 (Hons)

Admission Regulation

  • 1(a) A candidate who has passed the Higher Secondary (10+2) or its equivalent Examination (CBSE, ISC, Madrasa, Rabindra Mukta Vidyalaya and National Institute of Open Schooling) is eligible to seek admission to the 1st year of the 3 year (six semesters) B.A. Honours Course of Studies provided he/she has also passed in English having full marks not being less than 100. Candidates who have passed the Higher Secondary (10+2) Vocational examination conducted by the West Bengal State Council of Vocational Education and Training shall NOT be eligible to seek admission to the B.A. Honours Course. However, no candidate shall be allowed admission after a lapse of more than 5 years from the year of passing the previous qualifying examination. Explanation: The year of admission shall not be taken into account while calculating five years from the year of passing the previous qualifying Examination.
  • (b) Students who have passed the Higher Secondary (10+2) Examination or its equivalent from the All India Boards/Councils (i.e. CBSE, ISC, Madrasa, Rabindra Mukta Vidyalaya and National Institute of Open Schooling) need not require to submit Migration Certificate for getting Registration under this University.
  • 2. For the purpose of determining eligibility for admission to the B.A (Honours Courses, aggregate marks shall be calculated by adding the marks in top-four subjects in order of marks secured by a candidate. Marks in compulsory Environmental Education/Studies shall not be taken into account for calculation of aggregate marks. However, if the subject “Environmental Science” is studied as an elective subject of 100 marks, it may be taken into account for the purpose of determining the aggregate marks.
  • (a) A candidate taking up Honours Course in a subject must have obtained:
  • i. A minimum of 50% marks in the aggregate and 45% marks in the subject or related subject at the previous qualifying examination Or
    ii. 55% marks in the subject or related subject at the previous qualifying examination Or
    iii. 50% marks in the aggregate when the candidate has not studied the subject in his/her Previous qualifying examination
  • b) Candidates belonging to Reserved Categories taking up Honours Course of Study must have obtained a minimum of 40% marks in the aggregate or 40% marks in the subject or related subjects at the previous qualifying examination, as the case may be.

Bengali Hons TOTAL of Best four subjects of H.S /Equivalent exam + Bengali (out of 500) In case of a tie in the total merit point (out of 500),
1) the candidate with the higher marks in Bengali at the HS/Equivalent Exam will be placed higher on the merit list.
2) then the total of the best 5 subjects at the HS/Equivalent exam is considered and then
3) the marks in English at the HS/Equivalent exam is considered
English Hons TOTAL of Best four subjects of H.S /Equivalent exam + English (out of 500) In case of a tie in the total merit point (out of 500),
1) the candidate with the higher marks in English at the HS/Equivalent Exam will be placed higher on the merit list.
2) then the total of the best 5 subjects at the HS/Equivalent exam is considered and then
3) the marks in English at the HS/Equivalent exam is considered
Philosophy Hons TOTAL of Best four subjects of H.S/Equivalent + Philosophy (out of 500) But for students who have not studied Philosophy at the plus 2 level, they will have to have studied any one of the allied subjects Psychology, Maths, Education, Sociology, Political Science & while calculating Index for Merit list, average of best 4 subjects of HS/Equivalent exam will be added to total of best 4 subjects of HS/ Equivalent Exam to arrive at a score out of 500 In case of a tie in the total merit point (out of 500),
1) the candidate with the higher marks in average of best 4 subjects at the HS/Equivalent Exam will be placed higher on the merit list.
2) then the total of the best 5 subjects at the HS/Equivalent exam is considered and then
3) the marks in English at the HS/Equivalent exam is considered
History Hons TOTAL of Best four subjects of H.S /Equivalent exam + History (out of 500) In case of a tie in the total merit point (out of 500),
1) the candidate with the higher marks in History at the HS/Equivalent Exam will be placed higher on the merit list.
2) then the total of the best 5 subjects at the HS/Equivalent exam is considered and then
3) the marks in English at the HS/Equivalent exam is considered.
Education Hons TOTAL of Best four subjects of H.S/Equivalent exam + Education (out of 500) But for students who have not studied Education at the plus 2 level, they will have to have studied any one of the allied subjects Psychology, Philosophy, Maths, Sociology, Economics, Political Science, History, Statistics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology & while calculating Index for Merit list, average of best 4 subjects of HS/Equivalent exam will be added to total of best 4 subjects of HS/ Equivalent Exam to arrive at a score out of 500. In case of a tie in the total merit point (out of 500),
1) the candidate with the higher marks in average of best 4 subjects at the HS/Equivalent Exam will be placed higher on the merit list.
2) t the total of the best 5 subjects at the HS/Equivalent exam is considered and then
3) the marks in English at the HS/Equivalent exam is considered
Sanskrit Hons TOTAL of Best four subjects of H.S /Equivalent exam + Sanskrit (out of 500) In case of a tie in the total merit point (out of 500),
1) the candidate with the higher marks in Sanskrit at the HS/Equivalent Exam will be placed higher on the merit list.
2) then the total of the best 5 subjects at the HS/Equivalent exam is considered and then
3) the marks in English at the HS/Equivalent exam is considered
Arabic Hons TOTAL of Best four subjects of H.S /Equivalent exam + Arabic (out of 500) In case of a tie in the total merit point (out of 500),
1) the candidate with the higher marks in Arabic at the HS/Equivalent Exam will be placed higher on the merit list.
2) then the total of the best 5 subjects at the HS/Equivalent exam is considered and then
3) the marks in English at the HS/Equivalent exam is considered

Minimum Eligibility Criteria for Admission for the Academic Session 2022-2023 (Pass)

  • 1. a) A candidate who has passed the Higher Secondary (10+2) or its equivalent Examination (CBSE, ISC, Madrasa, Rabindra mukta Vidyalaya and National Institute of Open Schooling) is eligible to seek admission to the 1st year of the 3 year (six semesters) B.A. General Course of Studies provided he/she has also passed in English having full marks not being less than 100. Candidates who have passed the Higher Secondary (10+2) Vocational examination conducted by the West Bengal State Council of Vocational Education and Training shall be eligible to seek admission to the B.A. (General) 1st year Course of Studies taking the subjects under Humanities Division only (having studies English with 100 marks) . However, no candidate shall be allowed admission after a lapse of more than 5 years from the year of passing the previous qualifying examination.
    Explanation: The year of admission shall not be taken into account while calculating five years from the year of passing the previous qualifying
    Examination. (Meaning- any student passing HS or its equivalent exam in the year 2017 or later is eligible to apply for admission)

2) the marks in English at the HS/Equivalent exam is considered.
