No Common Entrance Test For Admission To Colleges
news

NOTIFICATION :

  • Students who are looking for college admissions in the session of 2020-21 will have to wait for more notifications since University Grants Commission (UGC) recently ruled out the idea of conducting a single entrance examination for all the higher education institutes around the country. So now its on the respective institutes discretion how they want to consider students for admissions and prepare with a proper mechanism for the same.
  • According to an official from UGC, the single entrance exam is not possible because of a large number of students and considering current circumstances and the uncertainty they come with, itll be quite difficult.
  • The new dates for medical and engineering exams National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) and Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) have been announced but no state or central university has given any update on the dates for its entrance exam so far.
  • Academic institutions like Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) and Banaras Hindu University (BHU) havent announced any date so far. They are waiting for an update from the Home Ministry in this regard and for the lockdown to end before deciding any date. Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) considers the entrance exam taken by the National Testing Agency (NTA), the dates for which were 11-14 May but now no new dates have been announced.
  • Delhi University takes in around 50,000 students every year at the undergraduate level through entrance exams and cut-off based systems, but there is no clarity about either of these. The dates regarding cut-offs cant be released because CBSE exams are yet to take place and there is little information on when CBSE would declare results for Class 12. While for the entrance tests, again NTA is responsible and dates havent been decided yet, owing to the uncertainty.
