Library
Space:
The Library is at present housed in the Guest House, which was the first building to come up on the University premises, in two rooms about 1800 sq ft. The shifting of the library to the recently built Academic Building has now been begun. The collections for all 28 departments will be shifted to the new space for the Library.
Books:
The total number of books in the Library till 2014 was 15,906 in number, consisting of 11, 536 titles. A department-wise listing of book is given in the Annexure.
In 2015, a fresh batch of 3998 new books has been added, which are in the process of being catalogued digitally. Thelibrary, beginning with the cataloguing of these new books,is in the process of being made into an e-library so as to facilitate browsing, lending and locating of books.
E-Journals
We were able to give our faculty and students access to e-Journals through the Associate Membership programme under UGC consortium for some time. From February 2012 to December 2013, the following groups of journals were subscribed to:
JSTOR
Springer
MathSciNet
Annual Reviews and American Institute of Physics /American Physical Society
Royal Society of Chemistry
From January 2013 to December 2013, the following groups of journals were subscribed to:
JSTOR
We also subscribed to 34 Sage journals, both print and online access, from Jan 2012 to December 2013. Since 2013, however, these subscriptions have proved expensive and we have been compelled to discontinue our membership. We are hoping to have access to the journals again once the 12B status is granted to our University.
Facilities
We have 2 photocopiers which can be used by the students and faculty. We used to have, till 2013, 20 computer terminals which would be used by students to browse e-journals and e-books available through the Associate Membership of INFLIBNET-UGC.
The total funding received for the Library till date from the State is 1 crore 57 lakhs.
The library sees a daily footfall from about 100 students.
National Service Scheme (N.S.S.)
Supreme value of youth period is incalculable and indescribable. Youth life is the most precious life. Youth is the best time. The way in which you utilize this period will decide the nature of coming years that lie ahead of you. Your happiness, your success, your honor and your good name all depend upon the way in which you live now, in this present period. Remember this. This wonderful period of the first state of your life is related to you as the soft wet clay in the hands of the potter. Skillfully the potter gives it the right and correct shapes and forms, which he intends to give. Even so, you can wisely mould your life, your character, your physical health and strength, in short your entire nature in any way in which you make up your mind to do. And you must do this now.

Games and Sports
The Sports Cell of West Bengal State University was established in November, 2008, which was affiliated with the Association of Indian Universities in the year 2009. Due to its locational advantage at the rural belt and many of the famous sportspersons being the citizens of North 24 Parganas District by birth, our university gave birth to a number of good players in different fields of boys’ and girls’ events. Further, formation of the Newly Structured Sports Committee by the University Authority has also made the whole selection process transparent and well-accept.
Sexual Harassment Cell
The government of West Bengal through an Act of the Legislative Assembly has passed West Bengal Act XXVIII of 2007 implementing a long-standing public demand in creating the university named West Bengal State University (Barasat, North 24 Paragans). This became functional from the academic session 2008–09. On 26 May 2008 there were 63 colleges formerly affiliated with the University of Calcutta. They were, through a government notification (No.300-Edn(U)/ IU-38/08), transferred to this new university. The University began functioning under its first Vice-Chancellor Professor Ashoke Ranjan Thakur, the erstwhile Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Jadavpur University.
