For B.A./B.Sc. Honours Programme

Gr. I :  Physics (PHS), Zoology (ZOO), Education (EDC), Physical Education (PED)
Gr. II : Mathematics (MTM), History (HIS), Environmental Science (ENV)
Gr. III : Chemistry (CEM), Sociology (SOC), Sanskrit (SAN)
Gr. IV : Botany (BOT), Economics (ECO), Food & Nutrition (FNT)
Gr. V :  Political Science (PLS)
Gr. VI : Geography (GEO), Molecular Biology (MLB), Psychology (PSY), Philosophy(PHI), Journalism & Mass Communication (JOR)
Gr. VII : English (ENG)
Gr. VIII : Anthropology (ANT), Computer Application (CMA), Computer Science (CMS), Bengali (BNG), Hindi (HIN)

* Subject code of Commerce papers is FAC and that of BBA Hons is BBA; while these two programmes do not mix with B.A./B.Sc.

  • Available subjects for B.A. (Hons): History, English, Bengali, Hindi, Political Science, Sanskrit, Philosophy, Sociology, Education, Psychology, Computer Application, Economics.
  • Available subjects for B.Sc. (Hons): Physics, Zoology, Chemistry, Botany, Psychology, Mathematics, Anthropology, Geography,   Computer Science, Computer Application, Economics, Food & Nutrition.
  • Generally one Honours Subject and Two Generic Elective (HGEC) subjects are to be chosen either entirely from Humanities section or entirely from Science section and BA/BSc degree will be determined accordingly.
  • Among the above subjects not more than one subject can be chosen from any of the eight groups displayed above – for BA/BSc programmes.
  • Psychology, Computer Application and Economics Honours are exceptions where both BA and BSc degrees are possible. For these cases if one of the HGECs is from science it will be B.Sc. Honours and if both the HGECS from Humanities, it will be BA Hons. On the other hand eithre of these two subjects may be chosen as one of the HGECs in BA Honours program.
  • Another exception: Political Science may chosen as one of the HGECs with Geography Honours. Computer Application as HGEC may be chosen in both BA, BSc
  • “Some Special conditions for admission to Honours & General Courses” mentioned below are to be obeyed. Otherwise one may choose any subject from the list of available subjects (already mentioned) as HGEC not contradicting the above provisions set by the college.
  • The choices of generic elective subjects in the application form are provisional only. Those may be altered at a later stage after admission within stipulated deadlines, if seats are available and eligibility criteria are satisfied.

Some Special conditions for admission to Honours & General Courses as follows:

  • Computer Applications: A student studying Computer Applications will be given B.Sc General degree if he/she earns required number of credits in the structure appropriate for B.Sc General and chooses at least one discipline from science group besides Computer Applications.
  • A student studying Computer Applications will be given B.A. degree if he/she earns required number of credits in the structure appropriate for B.A. General and chooses the other main discipline (and not the Generic Elective) from Arts & Humanities group besides Computer Applications.
  • Psychology : A student will be given B.A. General degree in Psychology if the candidate earns required number of credits in the structure appropriate for B.A. General and chooses the other main discipline (and not the Generic Elective) from Arts & Humanities group besides Psychology.
  • Economics: A candidate shall be allowed to take up Honours in Economics if he/she has passed in Mathematics at the H.S. or its equivalent Examination. However, it is advisable that a student pursuing Honours in Economics takes Mathematics as a Generic Elective (for pursuing higher studies in the subject in future).
  • A student shall be given B. Sc Honours degree in Economics if he/she takes up at least one discipline from the Science group for his/her Generic Elective and shall be awarded B. A Hons degree in Economics if both the disciplines chosen for Generic Electives are from the Arts & Humanities group.
  • A student will be given B.Sc degree in Economics if he/she earns required number of credits in the structure appropriate for B.Sc General and chooses at least one discipline from science group besides economics.
  • A student will be given B.A. degree in Economics if he/she earns required number of credits in the structure appropriate for B.A. General and chooses the other main discipline (and not the Generic Elective) from Arts & Humanities group besides economics.
  • Mathematics: a candidate, who has passed Mathematics (and not Business Mathematics) at H.S. level, is eligible for admission to Mathematics Honours course. A student will only be given the B.Sc degree for Mathematics subject. It is mandatory for the student to choose both the subjects from the Science group  to be eligible for the aforesaid degree.
  • Physics: Students studying Honours in Physics will have to take elective subjects as stand hereunder and in conformity with Grouping of subjects:
    (a) One of the subjects: Mathematics and (b) Any one of the subjects: Chemistry, Electronics, Statistics, Computer science.
  • Computer Science: Students studying Honours in Computer Science will have to take Generic Elective subjects as stand hereunder and in conformity with Grouping of subjects:
  • Two disciplines from the following list : Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Electronics
  • Anthropology: Students pursuing Honours in Anthropology should take Generic Elective disciplines from the Science Group.
  • Geography: A student will only be given the B.Sc Honours degree for Geography subject. Students studying Geography will have to take two disciplines as generic elective subjects from the disciplines mentioned hereunder and in conformity with Grouping of subjects:
    Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Economics, Political Science, Zoology, Anthropology.
  • A student who wants to study B.Sc General with Geography as one of the Core subject will have to take the other two subjects from the disciplines mentioned hereunder and in conformity with Grouping of subjects:
    Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Economics, Political Science, Zoology, Anthropology.
  • Food and Nutrition: A candidate shall be allowed to take up Honours in Food and Nutrition if he/she has passed in Chemistry at the H.S. Examination and has to take up Chemistry as one of the elective subject.
  • A student will only be given the B.Sc degree for Food and Nutrition subject. It is mandatory for the student to choose both the subjects from the Science group to be eligible for the aforesaid degree.

For B.A./B.Sc. General Programme

  • Arts subjects are distributed within I, II, III & IV.
  • Science subjects are distributed within I, II & III only.
  • Not more than one subject can be chosen from the same group, BA (GEN) and BSc (GEN) parts, taken  combined.
  • For BA (GEN) two main subjects (DSC) from two different BA (GEN) groups  are to be selected by the student.
  • For B.Sc. (GEN)  three main subjects (DSC) from three different  BSc (GEN) groups are to be selected by the student. 
  • Subject codes in the table are followed by G to indicate this table is valid for General Programme only.

EXCEPTIONS:

  • For B.Sc. (GEN)  with ECOG/ PSYG/ CMAG at least one of the other two subjects must be selected from the B.Sc. (GEN) Groups.
  • For B.A. (GEN)  with ECOG/ PSYG/ CMAG the other main subject is to be selected from BA(GEN) groups.
  • For B.A./B.Sc. (GEN) PSYG/ CMAG (or ECOG in combination with  any science subject ) cannot be combined with B.A. (GEN) Gr IV subjects.
  • For B.Sc. (GEN) with GEOG the only allowed option from BA (GEN) groups is PLSG.
  • In addition CMAG cannot combine with BNGG or HING
  • For B.A. (GEN) Generic Elective (GGEC) has  to be chosen in a way so that not more than one among two main subjects and Generic Elective subject are chosen from each of eight groups mentioned for BA/BSc Honours Programme.

For B.Com General Program

  • Two main subjects (GCOR) and Generic Elective subjects (GGEC) are fixed by WBSU, there is no choice for a student.

For B.B.A. Hons Program

  • Hons (ACOR) and Generic Elective subjects (HGEC) are fixed by WBSU, there is no choice for a student.
