Index Mark for the Merit List

Aggregate means total marks of the best four subjects (at least 100 marks paper). However, marks in compulsory Environmental Education /Studies shall not be taken into account for calculation of aggregate marks. If the subject "Environmental Science" is studied as an elective subject of 100 marks, may be taken into account for the purpose determining the aggregate marks

Admission will be conducted on the basis of provisional merit list. Provisional Merit list will be generated on the basis of Index Mark (formula given on the list below).

For admission a SC/ST candidate must secure not less than 25% and an OBC candidate must secure not less than 10% of index mark of the last admitted candidate in General Category in Honours and General Courses. For Reserved Category: Formula of index marks remains same as General Category

Formula for B.A.

Hons. Subject Index formula
Bengali (Top 4 Subjects +  Bengali x 2) divided by 6
English ((Top 4 Subjects) + English x 4) divided by 8
Philosophy (Top 4 Subjects + Philosophy or Psychology or Bengali or English whichever is higher) divided by 5
Political Science (Top 4 Subjects + Political Science or English whichever is higher) divided by 5.
Sanskrit (Top 4 Subjects + Sanskrit) divided by 5
History (Top 4 Subjects + History or English whichever is higher) divided by 5

A candidate taking up Honours in B.A. Degree Course/Programme shall study

  • Tie breaker:
    • The candidate with higher marks in the Honours subject applied for shall be placed first. If tie remains after 1
    • If two or more have same marks in the Honours Subject applied for, higher ranking will be assigned to the candidate with higher marks in English.
      For Physics Honours If two or more have same marks in the Honours Subject applied for, higher ranking will be assigned to the candidate with higher marks in Mathematics.If tie remains after 2
    • If two or more have same marks in the Honours Subject applied for, higher ranking will be assigned to the candidate with higher marks the Grand Total of (10+2) Examination.

Botany (Top 4 Subjects + Biology) divided by 5
Computer Science (Top 4 Subjects + Mathematics or Computer Sc. whichever is higher) divided by 5
Economics (Top 4 Subjects + Economics or Mathematics whichever is higher) divided by 5
Food & Nutrition (Top 4 Subjects + Biology or Nutrition whichever is higher + Chemistry) divided by 6
Geography (Top 4 Subjects + Geography) divided by 5 or (Top 4 Subjects + Average of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics) divided by 5
Geology (Top 4 Subjects) divided by 4
Mathematics (Top 4 Subjects + Mathematics x 2) divided by 6
Physics (Top 4 Subjects + Physics + Mathematics) divided by 6
Physiology (Top 4 Subjects +  Biology x 2) divided by 6
Statistics (Top 4 Subjects + Mathematics x 2 ) divided by 6
Zoology (Top 4 Subjects + Biology) divided by 5
