(Reservation Policy is as per CU Norms)
Eligibility Criteria:
  • Masters degree in Engineering/Technology or its equivalent with at least 65% marks in aggregate or its equivalent Grade-B in UGC-7 points scale.
  • First class in Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree in Pure Science with at least 65% marks in aggregate. However, they have to appear and qualify in an Entrance test and have to go through other formalities as per CU PhD regulation 2016.
For further detailed information, applicants may go through University of Calcutta (Regulation for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy, Ph.D, notification No CSR/60/16), Regulations 2016, in the University website: www.caluniv.ac.in.
Entrance Test and Selection Criteria (Applicable to candidates as mentioned in C.U. Ph.D. rule 2016):
  • The Ph.D. research entrance test (RET) will be online written test over Google Meet platform for all eligible candidates. The examination will be of 1 (one) hour duration.
  • The questions of the Entrance Test will, in general, cover topics of Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, basics of Physics, Electronics, Communication Systems and Computer Science.
  • Qualifying marks for entrance test will be 65%. The qualified candidates will have to appear for an online presentation on specific research proposal for final selection.
  • The final list of selected candidates will be prepared based on the merit of the research proposal, interview performance and falling within the scope of research of Electrical Engineering Faculties of this department.
  • Declaration of names of selected candidates to be communicated electronically (After the approval from Honorable Vice Chancellor).

Deposition of application fees: INR 100/ (one hundred only)

The candidates shall online deposit the application fees to the following account number:

After depositing the fees, the challan/transaction reference number to be mentioned in the application form and a PDF copy of the challan to be enclosed in the application email.

Documents to be emailed/enclosed along with the filled-in application form (all in PDF format):
  • Scan copies of marksheets of 10th, 10+2 level, BE/B.Tech., ME/M.Tech. plus other qualifications, if any.
  • Evidence of research work undertaken/papers published in journals/conferences out of research/project work carried out earlier.
  • A one-page abstract of research proposal.
