Selection will be made on the basis of a Written Test followed by an Interview. Those who will qualify in the Written Test will have to appear for an Interview. Candidates with NET/SET/M.Phil. are not required to appear for the Written Test and are eligible to apply for appearing in the Interview directly. Seats are reserved for SC/ST/OBC-A/OBCB/Physically Handicapped (PH) candidates as per the West Bengal Higher Education Institutions (Reservation in Admission) Rules, 2013.

Eligible candidates who wish to pursue research work in the Department should apply in the prescribed Application Form attached by paying Rs. 100.00. To make the payment in online mode, please refer to the following steps-

For the Written Test, the question paper will be of MCQ type containing 100 questions of 2 marks each. For each wrong answer, 1 mark will be deducted.
Topics for the Test: Paper-I (100 marks, 50 questions): General Knowledge, Current Affairs, Reasoning Ability, Comprehension Skill; Paper-II (100 marks, 50 Questions): Journalism and Mass Communication, Research Techniques, etc.
Questions will be set in English. The Qualifying Marks for the Written Test: 50% (for General candidates); 45% (for OBC-A and OBC-B candidates); 37.5% (for SC/ST candidates) in individual papers to qualify for the interview.
Candidates will be issued Admit Cards for the Written Test and Interview, which they have to show at the time of Written Test and/or Interview.
Candidate must carry any one of the original and valid Photo Identification Proof, such as Aadhaar Card (With photograph)/PAN card/Driving License/Voter ID/Passport etc along with the Admit Card duly issued.
Self-attested photocopies of the relevant documents and testimonials may be enclosed with the filled-in Application Form.
Mobile phones, electronic gadgets, calculators, papers, goggles, etc. will not be allowed inside the Test centre. Bring only ball pens with black ink.
All notices regarding selection (written test/interview, etc.) will be put up on the Website and as well as on the Notice Board of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication and the University is not under any obligation to send such information to any individual candidate.
Submission of Application Forms: 16.11.2022 to 28.11.2022 (Working days/Monday-Friday/12:00 Noon-04:00 P.M.).
Date of Written Test (Marks 200): 07.12.2022 at (Paper-I: 12:00 Noon – 12:45 P.M. and Paper-II: 01:00 P.M. – 01:45 P.M.).
Venue of Written Test: Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, University of Calcutta. (Reporting Time: 11:30 A.M.)
Notification of the list of candidates with NET/SET/M.Phil. who have duly submitted applications for appearing in the Interview directly: 09.12.2022 at 03:00 P.M.
Publication of the list of candidates who obtained qualifying marks in the Written Test: 12.12.2022 at 03:00 P.M.
Date of Interview: 15.12.2022 at 11:00 A.M. (Venue: Department of Journalism and Mass Communication).
Each candidate appearing for the Written Test/Interview has to bring his/her Admit Card duly issued for verification before the Written Test/Interview.
Each candidate appearing for the Interview is asked to bring all relevant documents, testimonials in original and a synopsis (about 1000 words) of his/her research proposal.
