Reservation of Seats for Admission :
- 60% of total seats of each department be allotted for the students of the University of Gour Banga (UGB).
- Selection will be made strictly on merit. Marks obtained in Honours will be the sole criteria. For the applicants who have completed their Honours or equivalent degree before 2015 (to the extend of the year 2013) marks @ 5% per year will be deducted from the marks obtained by them. In case of equal marks in Honours, total marks/percentage of marks of immediately preceding Examinations are to be taken into account for ranking.
- Seats will be reserved for SC (22%), ST (6%), OBC: Category-A (10%) & Category-B (7%) and Physically Handicapped/Challenged (3%) candidates as per West Bengal Govt. rules.
- Normally 60% seats will be for the students of the University of Gour Banga (UGB) and 40% seats for other Open Competition. This 60% and 40% may be relaxed in case of non-availability of the applicants in either category.
Library
From the inception of UGB the Central Library was established as a Knowledge Centre to support the educational and research programmes of the University by providing physical and intellectual access to information. The central Library started with a small room has presently is located in Two -storey building with a carpet area of about 40 thousand sq. ft. It is situated in the midst of the of the University and is the hub of all the academic activities of the University and provides comprehensive access to books, journals, reports, e-journals, theses and dissertations and many other resources covering diverse disciplines.
University Health Care Unit
University Healthcare Unit (UHU) is located on the ground floor of the main administrative building. The student can just walk in for consultations and treatment. Consultations with the specialists are also available at the UHU. Medicines are also provided free of cost to the students from the UHU as per university rules. Referral services to public hospitals for specialized treatment/hospitalization and other services are not be possible to cover by the UHU.
Centre for Differently Abled
A dictated centre has been created to the University to assist the students who are differently abled in their academic life as well as in their personal life.
Financial Assistance
There is also a provision for Financial Assistance to the needy and poor students. The students belonging to the SC/ST are advised to apply to their respective State Governments for financial assistance to defray the expenses of their education.
Cultural Activities
Cultural activities among the student community on the campus are promoted through various cultural functions namely : Debating, Drama, , Music, etc.. Each function come under the supervision of the students and the members of their executive committee.
Games & Sports
A student, at the University level is expected to be aware of the importance of physical activities and Sports and Games programmes which should be combined with his/ her academic pursuits. UGB provides the basic facilities for such activities in terms of the sport fields/courts and also playing equipment, both for practice and competitions. The University's Sports Office is located in the administrative building, and is being looked after by one Sports Officer in Charge.
Anti Ragging Cell
In order to prohibit, prevent and eliminate the scourge of ragging, the University has implemented the regulations notified by the University Grants Commission on curbing the Menace of Ragging in Higher Educational Institutions, 2009 in view of the directions of the Hon'ble Supreme Court of India. The students found guilty of ragging are awarded punishment as prescribed in the UGC regulations.
Cell Against Sexual Harassment
The University is committed to providing a place of work and study free of sexual harassment, intimidation or exploitation. It is expected that all students, faculty, staff, karamcharis and officials will treat one another and visitors to the University with respect. Anyone violating this policy is subject to disciplinary action. Reports of sexual harassment are taken seriously and are dealt with promptly.
University of Gour Banga has been established by the West Bengal Legislative Assembly vide West Bengal Act XXVI of 2007.
The Appointed Date as per Kolkata Gazettee dated 14th March, 2007 is March 10, 2008. From this date all Sections of the Act except Section 1 and Section 57 have come into force.
The University Council as per Section 58(2) has come into effect from May 26, 2008 vide Kolkata Gazettee dated 28th May, 2008.
All the general degree colleges, law colleges and teachers training colleges in the district of Malda, Uttar Dinajpur and Dakshin Dinajpur have been brought under affiliation of the University of Gour Banga vide Govt. Order No. 299-Edn(U)/EH/IU-37/08 dated 26-05-2008.Currently there are 34 affiliated colleges out of which 20 general degree colleges provide B.A./B.Sc./B.Com./B.C.A./B.B.A. / B.H.M. courses/12 colleges provide B.Ed. course/one college offers B.P.Ed. course and one college conducts 5 yrs.Integrated LL.B. ( B.A. & LL.B. ) course.

The University Campus offers M.A. in English/Bengali/Arabic/Sanskrit/History/Education and M.Sc. in Mathematics from December 15,2008 (2008-09 session). The second batch ( 2009-10 ) commenced on 4.8.09.Visit Courses of Study.P.G.Courses for more information.
The University of Gour Banga is approved by the UGC under Scetion 2(F) of the UGC Act, 1956.
At present the University is fully funded by the Govt. of West Bengal.
