Admission to M.Sc. (Day) Courses
Session: 2018-2019

  • Last date of submission of application(s) for admission to Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Applied Geology, Geography, Electronic Science, Biotechnology and Instrumentation is July 30, 2018 and last date of online payment is August 1, 2018.
  • Before applying please read the eligibility criteria & selection procedure carefully.
  • Before starting the registration process, you are advised to consult the How to Apply section.
  • IMPORTANT: Please ensure that a printer is connected with the computer you are working on.

  • IMPORTANT: Please put carefully Category, Gender, Year of passing, Percentage of marks and also all mandatory fields.
  • Each candidate will need to register only once. After registration, he/she can apply in as many departments he/she wishes (if eligible).
  • After submitting the application, he/she will get a unique Application No. Using this No. he/she can re-login into the system.
  • If any candidate wants to fill the form second time, he/she has to enter his/her graduation registration number followed by dup (Ex. If your graduation registration number is 5008456 then you have to enter 5008456dup).
  • After 48 hours of form fill up, candidates should pay the application fees online through SBI I-Collect System using Net Banking / Credit Card / Debit Card and print the e-receipt from SBI website for further reference. Enter Date of Birth as "ddmmyyyy" format in SBI server at the time of online payment of application fees.
  • After online payment through SBI I-Collect System, candidates have to upload the fees deposit details SBCollect Ref. No.) by login to the system using Application No./Login ID. If you do not upload the fees deposit details within 02/08/2018 in this website, your application shall not be completed. Incomplete and/or incorrect application shall be liable to be cancelled.
  • The candidate will need to take a print out of duly completed application form and admit card for each subject(s). No candidate will be allowed to enter in the examination hall without admit card.
  • Candidate who have appeared the B.Sc. (Honours/Major) Final Examination this year, the result of which are yet to be published are also eligible to apply. They should input the marks of two year (1st & 2nd year) or five(5) semesters for B.Sc. (Hons.) or its equivalent examination and they must have the minimum eligibility on the basis of the marks secured. How ever they have to submit the final mark-sheet at the time of interview & admission.
The minimum eligibility criteria for admission to the M.Sc.(Day) courses in various subjects are as follows:

All Candidates should have Physics, Chemistry, & Mathematics in the H.S. Level
45% marks in the 3 year B.Sc. (Honours / Major) in Physics / Instrumentation / Electronics

OR

45% marks in the 3 year B.Sc. (Honours / Major) in Chemistry with pass subject in Physics and Mathematics.

All Candidates should have Physics, Chemistry, & Mathematics in the H.S. Level
41% marks in the 3 year B.Sc. (Honours / Major) in Physics / Instrumentation / Electronics

OR

41% marks in the 3 year B.Sc. (Honours / Major) in Chemistry with pass subject in Physics and Mathematics.

All Candidates should have Physics, Chemistry, & Mathematics in the H.S. Level
Biotechnology 55% marks in B.Sc. (Honours / Major) in any branch of Science with at least 50% marks in Mathematics in H.S. level 49.5% marks in B.Sc. (Honours / Major) in any branch of Science with at least 50% marks in Mathematics in H.S. level 41% marks in B.Sc. (Honours / Major) in any branch of Science with at least 50% marks in Mathematics in H.S. level
Geography 60% marks in the 3 year B.Sc. (Honours / Major) in Geography 54% marks in the 3 year B.Sc. (Honours / Major) in Geography 45% marks in the 3 year B.Sc. (Honours / Major) in Geography
Candidate who have appeared the B.Sc. (Honours / Major) Final Examination this year, the result of which are yet to be published are also eligible to apply. They should input the marks of two year (1st & 2nd year) or five(5) semesters for B.Sc(Hons.) or its equivalent examination and they must have the minimum eligibility on the basis of the marks secured but they should submit the final marksheet at the time of interview & admission.

SC/ST Category

As per circular Nos. BC16014/1/82SC dt.06/08/1984 & BCD1, D.O.12017/11/89SCD (R.CELL) dt.09/01/1990 and letter No.1510SCW dt.31/05/2007 from the Government of West Bengal, Scheduled Castes / Scheduled Tribes of the States other than West Bengal are not entitled to get the benefit of reserved quota in Educational Institutions in West Bengal. Such students may get the benefit of reserve quota if they have domicile certificate of 10 years residency in West Bengal.
Candidates provisionally selected under this category will have to submit the SC/ST certificate in their name at the time of admission, otherwise his/her admission may be denied.

OBC-A / OBC-B Category

The candidates who will be provisionally selected under the OBC-A or OBC-B categories must produce an OBC certificate (the date of issue of the certificate should not be earlier than June 2017) issued by the competent authority that clearly indicates (i) the category (A or B) they belong to; (ii) that they do not belong to creamy layer of the society, at the time of counselling / admission.

If any candidate could not produce the noncreamy layer certificate at the time of admission, a ten (10) days time at the most will be given to the candidate to produce the same. otherwise his/her admission may be denied.

OBC-A and OBC-B candidates from the States other than West Bengal are not entitled to get the benefit of reserved quota in Educational Institutions in West Bengal. Such students may get the benefit of reserve quota if they have domicile certificate of 10 years residency in West Bengal.

For Sports Category

Candidate should have attained the standard of minimum 4th place in any Zonal Inter-University competition or any team event / sports / games where direct All India Inter-University competition is conducted under the aegis of AIU. OR Candidate should have secured minimum 8th place for individual event/ sports in any All India / Inter Zonal Inter-University Championship / Tournament in the AIU conducted sports/games. OR Candidate having participation in any recognized National repute Competition / National Championship (representing any state) affiliated by competent authority of the respective National sports bodies (Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports / Indian Olympic Association) in the sports and games offered by the A.I.U.

For Chess, applicant having the FIDE rating (standard) 1700 and above for Boys and FIDE rating (standard) 1300 and above for girls is eligible to apply for admission under the sports quota.

For Tennis, applicant having the AITA ranking up to 300 for under 18 years boys/girls or ranking up to 500 for open (Men/Women) category is eligible to apply for admission under the sports quota. The rating/ranking for chess & tennis is applicable on the day / week of publication of advertisement for admission under sports quota.

For Cricket & Football, applicant must have represented any 1st Division Club or above with participation of 40% matches either in the current year or any one of the two preceding years organized by either CAB / IFA or any State Association OR having the criteria as specified above.

Such sports representations are to be made within current year or any one of the two preceding calendar years (i,e commencing from 1st January) only.

Certificates of participation (Click here for format) in Sports/Games must be obtained from the competent authorities. Applicant must submit the certificates in prescribed format along with a print out of online payment receipt, print out of online application and all Sports Certificate to the Office of the Dean and the Secretary, Faculty Council of Science, U.G. Science Building, Ground Floor, Jadavpur University, Kolkata 700032, on or before August 10, 2018 (11:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M.).

For PD Category

Persons with 40% or more disability will only be considered for admission under PD category under PWD (Equal Opportunity, Protection of Rights and Full Participation) Act, 1995. Physically Disabled (PD) candidates should submit the attested copy of their disability certificate, issued by Superintendent of State/Central government Hospital stating physical disability, along with a printout of online application and photocopy of online payment receipt within August 10, 2018 (11:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M.) to the office of the Dean & Secretary, Faculty of Science, U.G. Science Building, Ground Floor, Jadavpur University, Kolkata 700032. Final selection in this category would be done by the Admission committee.
For Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Applied Geology, Geography and Electronics Science Candidates will be selected strictly on the basis of result of a written admission test.
For Instrumentation Candidates will be selected on the basis of results of written test and marks obtained in the B.Sc. (Honours / Equivalent) examination. The selection list will be prepared on the basis of the weightage on the marks of the admission test and the B.Sc. (Honours / Equivalent) examination. The ratio of weightage on the marks of admission test and the B.Sc. (Honours / Equivalent) examination is 60:40.
For Biotechnology Candidates will be selected strictly on the basis of results of a twotier entrance examination consisting of written test and a vivavoce. Limited number of candidates from the top of the interim merit list after written test will be called for vivavoce. Final merit list will be prepared on the basis of 70% weightage of the written test and 30% weightage of viva voce.
  • Maximum tenure of studentship for the admitted candidates will be as per the UGC circular noF. 121/2015(CPPII).
  • A student who has obtained the Master Degree in any subject from any University in Indian is not eligible for admission to the Master Degree course of this University.
  • The candidate will need to take a print out of the complete application form and admit card for each subjects following all necessary instructions. No candidate will be allowed to enter in the examination hall without admit card.
  • Deserving candidates should clearly indicate in the appropriate place of the application form whether he/ she desires to be considered in the reserved seats, as per University Rules, for SC / ST / PD / OBC-A / OBC-B / Sports categories. Otherwise they may miss the opportunity.
  • The Admission Committee reserves the right of not selecting any candidate who is considered to be physically unfit or otherwise unsuitable.
  • The date(s) of interview, the provisional lists of candidate to be called for counselling and other details of the admission procedure will be published on the website. No separate letter for interview and admission will be issued to any candidate.
  • Candidates must report each day at the place of counselling half an hour before their respective schedule. Call for interview does not confer the right for admission, which will cease in respect of each discipline as soon as its prescribed intake is filled.
  • Failure to appear at the counselling on specified date(s) and time shall lead to rejection of such candidature without further references to them.
  • Candidates who appear in the counselling on the scheduled date and time but cannot be accommodated within the specified intake in each category will be placed in the waiting list. Vacancies arising out of cancellation may be filled up from the waiting list in order of merit.
  • The candidate will have to bring / submit the following at the time of counselling / admission (if selected) :
    • Print out copy of the application form.
    • Online payment receipt generated from SBI server.
    • 5 copies of recent passportsize photograph.
    • Original and attested copies of Marksheets of B.Sc. (Honours/Equivalent) Part-I, Part-II and final Examinations.
    • Original and attested copies of Marksheets of Secondary or equivalent and Higher Secondary or equivalent Examinations.
    • Original and attested copies of Admit Card/Certificate of Secondary or equivalent Examination for verification of age.
    • SC / ST / OBC-A / OBC-B Certificate in the name of the candidate, P.D. Certificate (in original and attested copies).
    • Family Income Certificate from competent authority.
  • Ragging is totally banned in the Jadavpur University Campus including hostel premises,and anyone found guilty of ragging and /or abetting ragging is liable to be punished appropriately. If any incident of ragging comes to the notice of the authority, the concerned student shall be given liberty to and if his explanation is not found satisfactory, the authority would expel him from the institution.
  • Moreover, selected students will be required to submit undertaking as required under the UGC Regulations on Curbing the Menace of Ragging in Higher Educational Institution, 2010 (Regulation No.F.116/2007 (CPPII) dated April, 2009).The undertakings have to be duly signed by the candidate himself/herself and his/her parent/Guardian.
  • Student admitted should have at lest 60% attendance of total classes at the end of 2(two) weeks counted from the date of commencement of classes /date of admission of the candidate whichever is later, failing which the studentship will be treated as cancelled without further reference.
  • Students from other Universities should have to submit his/her migration certificate within four months from the date of admission, otherwise his/ her admission will be treated as cancelled.
  • Students are to pay their tuition fees at the beginning of the particular session.
  • Full-free and Half-free studentship to the extent of 15% and 10% respectively of the total permitted intake may be granted to the deserving students fulfilling all the eligibility requirements to that effect.
  • All courses of the University are nonresidential. Hostel seats are limited.
  • Classes will commence on immediately after admission.
