  • Last Date for online submission of application 10/07/2019.
  • Last Date submission of application fees through SBI I-Collect System (using Net Banking/Credit Card/Debit Card) is 13/07/2019. After payment through online please print the e-receipt for further reference. Enter the Date of Birth in ddmmyyyy format at SBI server at the time of online payment.
  • The University shall not be liable for any implication (be responsible in any way) in case any of the information submitted by the applicant is found to be erroneous and incorrect. His/her application / counseling / admission may be terminated in such cases.

    + Eligibility Criteria

    Important Instructions
    • Candidates who have completed results of Masters Course or equivalent in the relevant subject (as specified under B below) and fulfill the eligibility conditions laid down in A below may apply for admission to M.Phil Course for the academic session 2019-20.
    • Current students of M.A./M.Sc. courses who have appeared or due to appear in final examination of M.A./M.Sc. or its equivalent (in the relevant subjects as specified under B below) scheduled to be completed before June 28, 2019, securing at least the minimum percentage of marks as mentioned under A in the aggregate of all marks obtained in 1st, 2nd and 3rd semester examinations (in case of grade, the mid value of the corresponding range of marks should be considered for calculation of relevant parcentage of marks) with at least 40% marks in each course/paper are also eligible to apply. For such candidates the percentage of marks obtained in the aggregate of 1st, 2nd and 3rd semesters examinations will be considered for preparing the merit list. At the time of counseling/ admission those students (if provisionally selected) must submit a proof of completion of M.A./M.Sc. Final Examination, 2019 authenticated by the appropriate authority of his/her college/institute/university in prescribed format (click here). They will be required to submit their mark-sheet positively by September 30, 2019.
    • If at the time of counselling/admission and verification of marks, it is found by the university authority that
      • a student does not satisfy the eligibility criteria, s/he will not be considered for admission, even if he/she is provisionally selected for admission.
        Their provisional admission shall be automatically cancelled if they are not declared to have passed securing at least the minimum percentage of marks as mentioned under A in the aggregate of all marks obtained in 1st, 2nd and 3rd semester examinations after the publication of the results of the fourth semester examination (or corresponding Part in the Annual System). Their provisional admission will be cancelled even if they are declared eligible for Special Supplementary Examination 2019 or any such Examinations as per the Examination Rules of the University concerned.
      • a student had entered incorrect marks in his/her on-line application form, then his/her merit position shall be revised accordingly. In case of entering marks more than what he/she has actually obtained (as in his/her mark-sheets), he/she may be denied admission.
    • Even if a students marks in any particular examination at Masters level increases after review of his/her result for that examination by the concerned Institute/University after the last date of submission of online application (10.7.2019), such additional marks shall not be considered thereafter and at the time of counselling/admission, and his/her rank position in the provisional merit shall not be changed.
    For PD category:
    • Persons with 40% or more disability will only be considered for admission under PD category under PWD (Equal Opportunity, Protection of Rights and Full Participation) Act, 2016.
    • Candidates who have applied under PD category must submit an attested photocopy of certificate of disability issued by the competent authority along with a print out of online payment receipt within July 26, 2019 (5:00 P.M.) to the Office of the Dean and the Secretary, Faculty Council of Arts, Ground Floor, UG Arts Building, Jadavpur University, Kolkata 700032. The photocopy of the certificate and print out of online payment receipt may also be sent by post. The last date of receiving the certificates by post is July 26 (5:00 P.M.), 2019.
    • Applicants under PD category will have to appear before an expert committee to be constituted by the University. The date will be notified later.

    For SC/ST category:
    As per circular Nos. BC-16014/1/82-SC dt.06/08/1984 & BCD-1, D.O.12017/11/89-SCD(R.CELL) dt.09/01/1990 and letter No.1510-SCW dt.31/05/2007 from the Government of West Bengal, Scheduled Castes/ Scheduled Tribes of the States other than West Bengal are not entitled to get the benefit of reserved quota in Educational Institutions in West Bengal.

    Such students may get the benefit of reserve quota if they have domicile certificate of 10 years residency in West Bengal.

    For OBC-A/OBC-B Category:
    A candidate applying for seat reserved for the OBC-A/OBC-B category (wherever applicable) must produce an OBC certificate (the issue date of which should not be earlier than June 2018) issued by the competent authority that clearly indicates (i) the category (A or B) he/she belongs to; (ii) that he/she does not belong to creamy layer of the society. (This certificate must be signed by District Magistrate/Executive Magistrate/Additional District Magistrate/Sub Divisional Magistrate/Tehsildar of the district).

    OBC-A and OBC-B candidates from the States other than West Bengal are not entitled to get the benefit of reserved quota in Educational Institutions in West Bengal. Such students may get the benefit of reserve quota if they have domicile certificate of 10 years residency in West Bengal.

    Anti-Ragging:
    • Jadavpur University has accepted in principle that each and every student of the University shall be duty bound during the entire period of studentship with the University to immediately report to the Dean of Students if any ragging is noticed either in University hostel or on University campus.
    • If any incident of ragging comes to the notice of the Authority, the concerned student shall be given liberty to explain and if his explanation is not found satisfactory, the Authority would expel him/her from the University.
    Eligibility Conditions
    • Minimum Marks
      Category Minimum marks required in the Master Degree or equivalent in the subject noted in B
      General at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade 'B' in the UGC 7-point scale
      SC/ST/PD/OBC-A/OBC-B at least 50% or its equivalent grade
      Candidates who had obtained their Master's degree prior to 19 th September, 1991 at least 50% or its equivalent grade
    • Relevant Subjects
      M.Phil Course in Relevant Subjects
      Bengali M.A. in Bengali or Comparative Literature
      English M.A. in English or Comparative Literature
      Philosophy, History, Sociology M.A. in the subject
      Economics M.A./M.Sc. in Economics or M.S. in Quantitative Economics
      Comparative Literature M.A. in any subject
      International Relations M.A. in International Relations/Political Science
      Sanskrit M.A. in Sanskrit or Comparative Literature with Sanskrit as one of the pass subjects carrying at least 300 marks at the undergraduate level.
      Education M.A. in Education
      Library & Information Science M.L.I.Sc./M.L.I.Sc. (Digital Library)/M.S. in Library and Information Science

    + Selection Procedure

    For Sociology, Philosophy and Library & Information Science Selection of candidates will be made in order of merit, ascertained on the basis of 50% weight on marks obtained in an admission test* and 50% weight on aggregate marks in Master's programme.
    For Economics, English, History, Sanskrit, Bengali, Comparative Literature, International Relations and Education Selection of candidates will be made in order of merit, ascertained on the basis of marks obtained in an admission test*.
    * The candidates under General category must secure at least 50% marks in the written admission test for consideration in the merit list for admission.

    Duration of the examination: Two hours (two and a half hours for Economics).
