Academic Session: 2022-2023

  • Last date of submission of application(s) for admission to Physics (Day & Evening), Chemistry (Day & Evening), Mathematics (Day & Evening), Geography, Electronic Science, Biotechnology and Instrumentation is extended upto September 15, 2022.
  • As per the order of the Govt. of West Bengal there is no application fee. However, there will be Admission Test fees of Rs.200/- for applicants belongs to SC/ST/PD categories and Rs. 400/- for other applicants. Last date of submission of online admission test fees is 16/09/2022.
  • Before applying please read the eligibility criteria & selection procedure carefully.
  • Before starting the registration process, you are advised to consult the How to Apply section.
  • IMPORTANT: Please ensure that a printer is connected with the computer you are working on.

  • IMPORTANT: Please put carefully Category, Gender, Year of passing, Percentage of marks and also all mandatory fields.
  • Applicants have to upload the image files of 12th Board Marksheet, Graduation final exam Marksheet and SC/ST/OBC-A/OBC-B/PwD Certificate (where applicable) in .jpg or .jpeg format. Maximum size 100kb.
  • Each candidate will need to register only once. After registration, he/she can apply in as many departments he/she wishes (if eligible).
  • After submitting the application, he/she will get a unique Application No. Using this No. he/she can re-login into the system.
  • If any candidate wants to fill the form second time, he/she has to enter his/her graduation registration number followed by dup (Ex. If your graduation registration number is 5008456 then you have to enter 5008456dup).
  • All applicants must have complete result of Bachelor's Degree course at the time of online application.
  • The University shall not be liable for any implication (be responsible in any way) in case any of the information submitted by the applicant is found to be erroneous and incorrect. His/her application/ counseling/ admission may be terminated in such cases.

    + Eligibility Criteria

    All applicants must have completed results of Bachelor's Degree course from any University/Institute recognized by the UGC at the time of online application.

    Clarification of Honours papers:
    Non CBCS system: Honours/Major papers only
    CBCS system: Core papers and DSE papers only

    Eligibility Criteria For M.Sc. (Day) Courses
    The minimum Eligibility Criteria for admission to the M.Sc. (Day) courses in various subjects are as follows:

    Physics 60% marks in the 3-year B.Sc. (Honours / Major) in Physics with Mathematics as one of the GE / pass subjects. 54% marks in the 3-year B.Sc. (Honours / Major) in Physics with Mathematics as one of the GE / pass subjects. 45% marks in the 3-year B.Sc. (Honours / Major) in Physics with Mathematics as one of the GE / pass subjects.
    Chemistry 60% marks in the 3-year B.Sc. (Honours / Major) in Chemistry with Mathematics as GE / pass subjects. 54% marks in the 3-year B.Sc. (Honours / Major) in Chemistry with Mathematics and Physics as GE / pass subjects. 45% marks in the 3-year B.Sc. (Honours / Major) in Chemistry with Mathematics and Physics as GE / pass subjects.
    Mathematics 60% marks in the 3-year B.Sc. (Honours / Major) in Mathematics. 54% marks in the 3-year B.Sc. (Honours / Major) in Mathematics. 45% marks in the 3-year B.Sc. (Honours / Major) in Mathematics.
    Applied Geology 60% marks in the 3-year B.Sc. (Honours / Major) in Geology / Geological Sciences with Mathematics and Physics / Chemistry as GE / pass subjects. 54% marks in the 3-year B.Sc. (Honours / Major) in Geology / Geological Sciences with Mathematics and Physics / Chemistry as GE / pass subjects. 45% marks in the 3-year B.Sc. (Honours / Major) in Geology / Geological Sciences with Mathematics and Physics / Chemistry as GE / pass subjects.
    Electronic Science 60% marks in the 3-year B.Sc. (Honours / Major) in Electronics / Physics with Mathematics as one of the GE / pass subjects. 54% marks in the 3-year B.Sc. (Honours / Major) in Electronics / Physics with Mathematics as one of the GE / pass subjects. 45% marks in the 3-year B.Sc. (Honours / Major) in Electronics / Physics with Mathematics as one of the GE / pass subjects.
    Instrumentation 50% marks in the 3-year B.Sc. (Honours / Major) in Physics / Instrumentation / Electronics.
    Or
    50% marks in the 3-year B.Sc. (Honours / Major) in Chemistry (with GE / pass subject in Physics and Mathematics). All Candidate should have passed Physics, Chemistry, & Mathematics in the H.S. / Equivalent Level.
    45% marks in the 3-year B.Sc. (Honours/Major) in Physics / Instrumentation / Electronics.
    Or
    45% marks in the 3-year B.Sc. (Honours / Major) in Chemistry (with GE / pass subject in Physics and Mathematics). All Candidate should have passed Physics, Chemistry, & Mathematics in the H.S. / Equivalent Level.
    41% marks in the 3-year B.Sc. (Honours / Major) in Physics / Instrumentation / Electronics.
    Or
    41% marks in the 3-year B.Sc. (Honours / Major) in Chemistry (with GE / pass subject in Physics and Mathematics). All Candidate should have passed Physics, Chemistry, & Mathematics in the H.S. / Equivalent Level.
    Biotechnology Minimum 55% marks in B.Sc. (Honours / Major) in any branch of Science with at least 50% marks in Mathematics in H.S. / Equivalent level. Minimum 49.5% marks in B.Sc. (Honours / Major) in any branch of Science with at least 50% marks in Mathematics in H.S. level. / Equivalent Minimum 41% marks in B.Sc. (Honours / Major) in any branch of Science with at least 50% marks in Mathematics in H.S. / Equivalent level.
    Geography 60% marks in the 3-year B.Sc. (Honours / Major) in Geography with any one of the following as GE / pass subject: Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Physics, Chemistry, Geology. All Candidate should have passed Mathematics in the H.S. / Equivalent Level. 54% marks in the 3-year B.Sc. (Honours / Major) in Geography with any one of the following as GE/pass subject: Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Physics, Chemistry, Geology. All Candidate should have passed Mathematics in the H.S. / Equivalent Level. 45% marks in the 3-year B.Sc. (Honours / Major) in Geography with any one of the following as GE/pass subject: Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Physics, Chemistry, Geology. All Candidate should have passed Mathematics in the H.S. / Equivalent Level.

    Eligibility Criteria For M.Sc. (Evening) Courses
    The minimum eligibility criteria for admission to the M.Sc. (Evening) courses in various subjects are as follows:
    Subject General OBC-A/OBC-B SC/ST/PD/Sports
    Physics 55% marks in the 3-year B.Sc. (Honours / Major) in Physics with Mathematics as one of the GE / pass subjects. 49.5% marks in the 3-year B.Sc. (Honours / Major) in Physics with Mathematics as one of the GE / pass subjects. 41% marks in the 3-year B.Sc. (Honours / Major) in Physics with Mathematics as one of the GE / pass subjects.
    Chemistry 55% marks in the 3-year B.Sc. (Honours / Major) in Chemistry with Mathematics and Physics as GE / pass subjects. 49.5% marks in the 3-year B.Sc. (Honours / Major) in Chemistry with Mathematics and Physics as GE / pass subjects. 41% marks in the 3-year B.Sc. (Honours / Major) in Chemistry with Mathematics and Physics as GE / pass subjects.
    Mathematics 55% marks in the 3-year B.Sc. (Honours / Major) in Mathematics. 49.5% marks in the 3-year B.Sc. (Honours / Major) in Mathematics. 41% marks in the 3-year B.Sc. (Honours / Majors) in Mathematics.
    SC/ST Category:
    As per circular Nos. BC-16014/1/82-SC dt.06/08/1984 & BCD-1, D.O.12017/11/89-SCD(R.CELL) dt.09/01/1990 and 1465–BCW/MR–67/10 dt.30/04/2010 from the Government of West Bengal, Scheduled Castes/ Scheduled Tribes of the States other than West Bengal are not entitled to get the benefit of reserved quota in Educational Institutions in West Bengal. Such students may get the benefit of reserve quota if they have domicile certificate of 10 years residency in West Bengal.

    Candidates provisionally selected under this category will have to submit the SC/ST certificate in their name at the time of admission, otherwise his/her admission may be denied.

    OBC-A/OBC-B Category:
    The candidates who will be provisionally selected under the OBC- A or OBC- B categories must produce an OBC certificate (the date of issue of the certificate should not be earlier than September 2021) issued by the competent authority that clearly indicates (i) the category (A or B) they belong to; (ii) that they do not belong to creamy layer of the society, at the time of counselling/ admission.

    OBC-A and OBC-B candidates from the States other than West Bengal are not entitled to get the benefit of reserved quota in Educational Institutions in West Bengal. Such students may get the benefit of reserve quota if they have domicile certificate of 10 years residency in West Bengal.

    For Sports Category:
    Candidate should have attained the standard of minimum 4th place in any Zonal Inter-University competition or any team event / sports / games where direct All India Inter-University competition is conducted under the aegis of AIU.
    OR
    Candidate should have secured minimum 8th place for individual event / sports in any All India / Inter- Zonal Inter-University Championship / Tournament in the AIU conducted sports/games.
    OR
    Candidate having participation in any recognized National repute Competition / National Championship (representing any state) affiliated by competent authority of the respective National sports bodies (Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports / Indian Olympic Association) in the sports and games offered by the A.I.U.

    For Chess, applicant having the FIDE rating (standard) 1700 and above for Boys and FIDE rating (standard) 1300 and above for girls is eligible to apply for admission under the sports quota.

    For Tennis, applicant having the AITA ranking up to 300 for under 18 years boys/girls or ranking up to 500 for open (Men/Women) category is eligible to apply for admission under the sports quota. The rating/ranking for chess & tennis is applicable on the day / week of publication of advertisement for admission under sports quota.

    For Cricket & Football, applicant must have represented any 1st Division Club or above with participation of 40% matches either in the current year or any one of the two preceding years organized by either CAB / IFA or any State Association OR having the criteria as specified above.

    Such sports representations are to be made within current year or any one of the three preceding calendar years (i,e commencing from 1st January, 2019) only.

    Certificates of participation (Click here for format) in Sports/Games must be obtained from the competent authorities. Applicant must submit the certificates in prescribed format along with a print out of online application and all Sports Certificate in person or by post to the Office of the Dean and the Secretary, Faculty Council of Science, TEQIP Building, Ground Floor (Room No- 106), Jadavpur University, Kolkata 700032, on or before September 23, 2022.
    University shall not be liable for any kind of postal delay.


    For PD Category:
    Persons with 40% or more disability will only be considered for admission under PD category under RPD Act, 2016.

    + Selection Procedure

    Selection Procedure For M.Sc. (Day) & M.Sc. (Evening) Courses
    For Physics (Day), Physics (Evening), Chemistry (Day), Chemistry (Evening), Mathematics (Day), Mathematics (Evening), Applied Geology, Geography and Electronics Science Candidates will be selected strictly on the basis of result of a written admission test.
    For Instrumentation Candidates will be selected on the basis of results of written test and marks obtained in the B.Sc. (Honours/Equivalent) examination. The selection list will be prepared on the basis of the weightage on the marks of the admission test and the B.Sc. (Honours/Equivalent) examination. The ratio of weightage on the marks of admission test and the B.Sc. (Honours/Equivalent) examination is 50:50.
    For Biotechnology Candidates will be selected strictly on the basis of result of a written admission test.

    + Instructions

    • Maximum tenure of studentship for the admitted candidates will be as per the UGC circular no- F.12-1/2015(CPP-II).
    • A student who has obtained the Master Degree in the subject from any University in Indian is not eligible for admission to the Master Degree course of this University.
    • The candidates need to take a print out of the complete application form and admit card for each subjects following all necessary instructions. No candidate will be allowed to enter in the examination hall without admit card.
    • The employed candidates need to take a printout of the duly completed application form and Proforma-A (for school teachers only) or Proforma-B (for employed candidate other than school teachers), as applicable, in support of their employment. Filled-in proforma along with application form and photocopy of online payment receipt shall be submitted to the office of the Dean & Secretary, Faculty of Science within September 23, 2022.
    • Deserving candidates should clearly indicate in the appropriate place of the application form whether he/she desires to be considered in the reserved seats, as per University Rules, for SC/ST/PD/OBC-A/OBC-B/Sports categories. Otherwise they may miss the opportunity.
    • No separate letter/mail for councelling and/or admission will be issued to any candidate.
    • Ragging is totally banned in the Jadavpur University Campus including hostel premises,and anyone found guilty of ragging and/or abetting ragging is liable to be punished appropriately. If any incident of ragging comes to the notice of the authority, the concerned student shall be given liberty to and if his explanation is not found satisfactory, the authority would expel him from the institution.
    • Moreover, provisionally selected students will be required to submit undertaking as required under the UGC Regulations on Curbing the Menace of Ragging in Higher Educational Institution, 2010 (Regulation No.F.1-16/2007 (CPP-II) dated April, 2009).The undertakings have to be duly signed by the candidate himself/herself and his/her parent/Guardian.
    • Student admitted should have at lest 60% attendance of total classes at the end of 2(two) weeks counted from the date of commencement of classes /date of admission of the candidate whichever is later, failing which the studentship will be treated as cancelled without further reference.
    • Students from other Universities should have to submit his/her migration certificate within one year from the date of admission, otherwise his/ her admission will be treated as cancelled.
    • Students are to pay their tuition fees at the beginning of the particular session.
    • Full-free and Half-free studentship to the extent of 15% and 10% respectively of the total permitted intake may be granted to the deserving students fulfilling all the eligibility requirements to that effect.
    • All courses of the University are non-residential. Hostel seats are limited.
    • Classes will commence after admission.

    + How to calculate the percentage of marks

    For Secondary or equivalent Percentage of marks obtained in all subjects
    For Higher Secondary or equivalent On the basis of:
    1. WBCHSE: Percentage of marks obtained in best of 4 subjects excluding marks of Environmental Studies/Environmental Education/Environmental Science (out of 400 marks)
    2. All Other Boards: Percentage of marks obtained in best of 4 subjects (out of 400 marks)
    For Honours Graduates (Non-CBCS) Percentage of marks obtained in Honours/Major papers only
    For Honours Graduates (CBCS) Percentage of marks obtained in Core papers and DSE papers only
