  • Candidate should have completed one year compulsory rotating internship after passing the final professional examination before 30th April of the Academic year.

Admission Process & Procedure

A Candidate seeking admission to first MBBS course:

  • Shall have passed two-year Pre University examination conducted by department of Pre-University Education, Karnataka State/ Boards/ Councils/ Intermediate examination established by State Governments/ Central Government and recognised as equivalent to two years pre university examination by the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences/ Association of Indian Universities (AIU), with English as one of the subjects and Physics, Chemistry and Biology as optional subjects. The candidates shall have passed subjects of English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology individually also.

The Selection of students to medical colleges shall be based on merit provided that:

  • In case of admission on the basis of qualifying examination, a candidate for admission to MBBS course must have obtained not less than 50% marks taken together in Physics, Chemistry and Biology in the qualifying examination. In respect of candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes or Category I, the marks obtained in Physics, Chemistry and Biology taken together in qualifying examination, be not less than 40% instead of 50% as above.

    Age: The candidate should have completed 17 years of age on or before 31st day December of the year of admission.

Duration of the Course:

Every student shall undergo a period of certified study extending over 4 ½ academic years from the date of commencement of his study for the subjects comprising the medical curriculum to the date of completion of the examination followed by one year compulsory rotating Internship. The 4 ½ year’s course has been divided into three phases.

  • Phase- I – 1 year, consisting of two terms of 6 months each.
  • Phase-II – 1 ½ years, consisting of three terms of 6 months each.
  • Phase-III- 3 ½ years , after Phase-I, consisting of 7 terms. It runs concurrently with phase II and during Phase II Para-clinical and clinical subjects will be taught concurrently.

S. S. Institute of Medical Sciences & Research centre is affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka with a intake permission for 150 seats from Medical council of INDIA.

The lack of any specialty hospitals in rural Davangere often had people going to Bangalore and Belgaum seeking special treatment. Also the NH4 passing by Davangere was the site of many traffic accidents, necessitating immediate medical care. SSIMS & RC was set up with the vision of being a Stage 4 referral hospital, and a Central Regional Hospital that takes care of the medical needs of the geographical area.
