UNDER GRADUATE COURSES OFFERED

The college offers the four and a half year MBBS course with a one-year compulsory rotating internship in affiliated hospitals to a maximum of 150 students per year.

Admission to this course is extremely competitive and strictly on the basis of merit. Out of the 150, 22 seats are filled through the All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT) conducted by the CBSE and the remaining 128 seats are filled through the Odisha JEE held every year. The acceptance rate to this course is barely 0.2%, i.e. 1 in every 500 aspirants is given a place.

POST GRADUATE COURSES OFFERED

The college offers 74 places in postgraduate courses. The admission is through Odisha Post Graduate medical Examination and at the national level through All India Post Graduate Medical Entrance Examination (AIPGMEE). 50% of the places are reserved for in-service candidates. The courses award the degrees of MD or MS, in various fields.

PARA MEDICAL COURSES OFFERED

  • Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT): 30 places
  • Diploma in Medical Radiology Technology (MRT): 10 places
  • Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM): 50 places

ADMISSION SELECTION CRITERIA

M.B.B.S. Selection

Students are selected from AIPMT ranking.
15% of the seats are filled up from All India Quota and rest from state quota.

M.D. / M.S. Selection

MD/MS students are also selected from as per their ranking in AIPGEE.
Out of the total seats 50% are filled up from all India quotas.

Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research formerly called V.S.S.Medical College and Hospital situated by the side of Hirakud Dam began her march to fame with a spirit of nationalism and an urge to serve, educate and innovate. The present eminence is the culmination of efforts of countless men and women who gave their best under good circumstances and also during difficult situations.

It was the year 1959 Dr. Hare Krushna Mahatab was the Chief Minister of the Congress Government of Orissa. Her highness Queen of Ranpur, Smt. Basanta Manjari Devi was the health Minister. The idea of having the second Medical College in Orissa was floating in the air.

Hirakud Dam had just started yielding its hydroelectricity. A second gift pack of a Medical College was a fresh dose of ecstasy to the people of Western Orissa. 41 boys and 9 girls were selected from the First year MBBS students of SCB Medical College, Cuttack to be enrolled as the first batch students of the proposed new Medical College.

This rural medical college has many dreams yet to be realized. Catering the health needs of Western Odisha, part of Chhatisgarh and Jharkhand fully in view of rapid urbanization and industrialization in the vicinity it needs rapid expansion and state of the art facilities soon to keep its old tradition and meeting these challenges. We strive hard to offer a balanced blend of preventive, promotive, curative and rehabilitative services to the society.

Unremitting zeal, devotion and professional competence with empathy of the medical and paramedical personnel have ensured that on completion of study, our young doctors realize that "We Touch, God Heals" and they have to serve the mankind with love and compassion.
