CBSE Class 10 Pass Percentage Rises, Few Opt for Improvement Exams | News

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) declared the Class 10 board examination results on Wednesday, recording an overall pass percentage of 93.7%, slightly higher than last year’s 93.66%.

While students now have the option to retake exams to improve their scores, school authorities believe that only a limited number will choose to do so, as most candidates performed well in the initial attempt.

This year, CBSE introduced an improvement option that allows students to reappear in up to three subjects in order to enhance their marks.

In West Bengal, 43,867 students registered for the examination, with 43,612 appearing and 41,938 successfully passing. The remaining 1,674 students who did not qualify can take the second round of exams.

Several schools reported strong performances. Two students, Anisha Ghosh from Bhavan’s Gangabux Kanoria Vidyamandir and Jayshirshya Basu from BDM International School, achieved perfect scores of 500. At South Point School, over half of the 732 candidates scored above 90%.

At DPS Ruby Park, 329 out of 467 students scored above 90%, while Lakshmipat Singhania Academy saw 89 of its 138 students reach similar marks. GD Goenka School in Dakshineswar reported that 74 out of 356 students scored above 95%.

Sushila Birla Girls’ School had 85 out of 117 students scoring above 90%, and DPS Howrah reported 73 high scorers among 128 candidates.

School principals indicated that many students who had initially planned to retake exams may reconsider, as their results turned out better than expected. Strong performances across subjects have reduced the need for improvement attempts.

Educators also view the introduction of the second exam as a positive change, noting that it helps reduce stress while offering students an additional opportunity to improve their scores if needed.
