Dakshin Dinajpur University in Balurghat is experiencing financial pressure following a delay in the release of its non-salary grant from the state government. The pending allocation has created concerns over the institution's ability to meet several routine operational and academic expenses.

Established in 2018 as a state university, the institution depends on this annual grant to support a variety of essential expenditures. These include payments to guest faculty members, examination-related costs, electricity bills, office administration, fuel expenses for official vehicles, and other day-to-day operational requirements.

University officials stated that routine expenses have been managed so far using reserve funds accumulated over previous years. However, these reserves are now nearing exhaustion, making it increasingly difficult to sustain regular operations if the grant continues to be delayed.

Around 20 guest faculty members are currently engaged by the university, with their salaries financed through the non-salary grant. Officials have indicated that continued delays could affect salary disbursement for August, potentially disrupting academic activities and creating financial uncertainty for the faculty concerned.

According to university sources, the institution generally receives approximately ₹60 lakh annually from the state higher education department as a non-salary grant. The amount is usually released in multiple instalments throughout the financial year. However, no instalment has been received since the financial year began in April, leaving the university under increasing financial stress.

The delay comes at a critical time, with the admission process expected to begin shortly and preparations underway for the new academic session. In addition, the university is planning to shift to a temporary campus, a move that will require further expenditure on infrastructure, logistics, and relocation.

The university administration has informed the state higher education department about the situation and requested an early release of the pending funds. Authorities have also briefed Balurghat MLA Bidyut Kumar Roy regarding the issue. The legislator has acknowledged the matter and indicated that he may raise it with the state's higher education minister if necessary to help ensure the university's normal functioning.
