Revised Examination Schedule

The Indian Institute of Technology Bombay has revised the dates for its mid-semester examinations. Under the updated schedule, the examinations will now be conducted on:

• October 10, Saturday
• October 11, Sunday

While the examination dates have been shifted, students are expected to follow the same sequence and timetable that had been issued for the earlier September examinations.

Decision Follows Recent Campus Developments

The decision comes after the death of 22-year-old IIT Bombay student Sahil Wakode on September 18, an incident that was followed by student demonstrations on the institute's Powai campus.

Wakode was a second-year BTech student in the Department of Energy Science and Engineering. His death occurred following an incident associated with a mid-semester examination, leading to discussions concerning examination procedures, disciplinary practices and student welfare.

Recently obtained CCTV footage from the campus is reportedly being examined by the Mumbai Crime Branch as part of its investigation. The footage shows Wakode being questioned before leaving the examination hall during the afternoon.

Students Submit List of Demands

The incident also resulted in student protests and the submission of an 18-point set of demands to IIT Bombay Director Professor Shireesh Kedare.

The issues raised included calls for an independent examination of the circumstances surrounding Wakode's death, changes to disciplinary procedures, greater student participation in institutional matters and stronger student-support mechanisms.

What Students Need to Know

Students who had been preparing for the September 26 and 27 examinations will now appear for their mid-semester papers on October 10 and 11.

The institute has indicated that the change concerns the examination dates rather than the order or scheduling of individual papers. Students should continue checking official IIT Bombay communications for any additional instructions or further changes.
