The JEE Advanced 2026, the entrance examination for admission into the
Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), will take place on
May 17, 2026. This year, IIT Roorkee is responsible
for conducting the exam in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode.
Key Update: Reports suggest that IIT Kanpur has created
a pilot set of aptitude-focused questions that may be tested in this year's exam,
subject to approval from IIT Roorkee.
The proposal is currently being discussed within the IIT Council and the
Joint Admission Board. The goal is to explore an
adaptive testing system that measures reasoning skills and conceptual understanding
instead of relying heavily on memorisation.
Students who successfully clear the examination will be eligible for admission to
undergraduate programmes at IITs and the
Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bengaluru.
Organising Institute for 2026
The organising institute changes every year. For JEE Advanced 2026,

- Computer-based exam format
- Questions from Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics

If approved, the pilot aptitude-based questions designed by IIT Kanpur
could be used to test a new adaptive model that focuses more on reasoning ability.
