The National Testing Agency (NTA) has barred Aditya Motegaonkar from appearing in the NEET UG examination for two years and withheld his examination result amid the ongoing investigation into alleged paper leak-related irregularities.

Two-Year Debarment

Motegaonkar, the son of Latur-based coaching institute owner Shivraj Motegaonkar, has been barred from taking the NEET UG examination for two years. According to an NTA communication dated September 19, he will also not be eligible to appear for NEET UG 2027.

His result from the examination conducted earlier this year has been withheld as part of the action taken by the testing agency.

Details of the CBI Investigation

Shivraj Motegaonkar was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the alleged NEET UG paper leak and is currently in judicial custody.

According to the CBI's investigation, Motegaonkar allegedly paid Rs 5 lakh to obtain chemistry questions from P V Kulkarni, who was associated with the NTA's question-setting process.

The agency has further alleged that Aditya Motegaonkar attended coaching classes conducted by Kulkarni, where the examination questions were allegedly made available.

NEET UG Result Remains Withheld

Following the NEET UG retest conducted on June 21, the NTA kept Motegaonkar's result on hold and sought an explanation regarding alleged examination irregularities.

In his response, Motegaonkar denied using unfair means during the examination. He also questioned the decision to withhold his retest result, pointing out that the notice concerning the alleged irregularities related to the original May 3 examination.

Why Was the NEET UG Retest Conducted?

The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (Undergraduate), commonly known as NEET UG, is conducted by the NTA for admission to undergraduate medical programmes.

The original examination was held on May 3. Following allegations of a paper leak, the NTA cancelled the examination for affected candidates and subsequently conducted a retest on June 21.

Latest Developments in the Case

The CBI has also submitted its final report before a designated fast-track court in Delhi handling cases involving alleged paper leaks and other forms of unfair means in public examinations.

The latest NTA decision leaves Motegaonkar's NEET UG result withheld and prevents him from appearing for the 2027 examination.
