The National Testing Agency (NTA) is working on an artificial intelligence-powered helpline designed to help students find answers to questions about entrance examinations, application requirements and related procedures. The initiative aims to make examination guidance easier to access as efforts to improve the examination system continue.
The agency is reportedly adapting the existing toll-free number 1800 180 47 47 for the proposed service. According to a report by The Indian Express, the helpline is currently undergoing testing, while an official announcement regarding its launch is still awaited.
The number was previously used by a High Power Task Force (HPTF), headed by Nandan Nilekani, to collect public feedback and recommendations on examination reforms. Following the completion of that consultation exercise, the facility is being repurposed to assist examination candidates.
Once operational, the service is expected to help candidates resolve routine queries related to different aspects of the examination process, including:
AI technology could make it easier for students to obtain preliminary guidance, particularly during application periods when requests for clarification tend to increase.
The NTA has not yet officially disclosed the full capabilities of the proposed system. Details about supported languages, the categories of questions it can answer and the expected public launch date are also pending confirmation.
If implemented effectively, the helpline could provide a more accessible way for students from different backgrounds to seek examination-related assistance. Its effectiveness will depend on the accuracy of its responses, the range of topics covered and access to reliable information.
The proposed helpline comes amid ongoing discussions about strengthening examination administration, improving transparency and providing better support to candidates. The High Power Task Force has also been involved in reviewing potential changes to the conduct of competitive examinations.
An AI-based support system could complement existing communication channels by helping candidates find answers to frequently asked questions, especially during registration and examination periods.
Until the NTA formally announces the service, students should consult the agency's official website and examination-specific notifications for verified information. The launch date, final features and operating arrangements remain subject to official confirmation.
