RBSE Class 10 Board Exams Twice a Year From 2026-27 | News

The Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education (RBSE) is set to introduce a two-examination system for Class 10 students beginning with the 2026-27 academic session.

The new arrangement will provide eligible students with an additional opportunity to improve their scores or clear subjects without having to wait until the next academic year.

How the New Exam System Will Work

The first Class 10 board examination will be compulsory for all students and is likely to take place during February and March 2027.

A second examination is expected to be held around May and June. Students who successfully complete the main examination will be able to use this additional exam to improve their performance.

Under the proposed system:

  • Students can seek improvement in a maximum of three subjects.
  • The better score obtained across the two examinations will be used when preparing the final result.
  • Marks from internal assessments and practical examinations will continue to be carried forward.
  • Students opting for improvement must take the examination in the same subjects they selected earlier.
Example: If a student receives 60 marks in a subject during the first examination and improves the score to 70 in the second attempt, the higher score of 70 will be considered for the final result.

Second Exam Will Also Replace Supplementary Tests

The revised system will eliminate the existing supplementary examination arrangement. Instead, the second board examination will serve both as an improvement opportunity and as a route for certain students who have not cleared all subjects.

Students who fall short of the required 33% marks in one or two subjects may be eligible to take the second examination under the Essential Improvement category.

The provision may also cover students who are absent in one subject and fail to reach the qualifying mark in another.

Who Will Not Be Eligible?

Students who fail in three or more subjects will not be permitted to use the second examination route. Such candidates will need to retake the Class 10 examinations for all subjects during the following academic year.

Those eligible for the second examination, however, will not have to wait an entire year to address their academic performance.

What the Reform Means for Students

The introduction of two board examinations is intended to make the Class 10 assessment process more flexible.

Instead of having only one major examination determine their final performance, eligible students will have another opportunity within the same academic year.

The revised approach is also expected to reduce the pressure associated with a single high-stakes examination while allowing students who want to improve their marks to do so sooner.
