The schedule for the WBJEE 2026 entrance examination has been moved to May because of the upcoming Assembly elections in West Bengal.
The West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board (WBJEEB) has confirmed that the state-level entrance test for admission to BTech, pharmacy, and architecture programmes will be conducted on May 24, 2026. In most years, the examination takes place in April, but this time the board finalised the revised date during a meeting held on Friday.
An official notice issued by registrar Dibyendu Kar stated that the exam will determine admission to engineering, pharmacy, and architecture programmes offered by several universities and colleges across West Bengal. Students planning to appear for the exam are advised to regularly check the board’s official websites for updates and detailed instructions.
According to board chairman Gautam Paul, the exam date was decided after discussions with the state administration to ensure that the test is conducted only after the Assembly elections conclude.
Authorities also clarified that the announced dates are tentative and may change if unexpected circumstances arise. Information about the declaration of results will be shared later.
The Election Commission of India has not yet announced the election schedule. However, since the current state Assembly’s term continues until May 7, officials expect the election process to finish before that date. Taking this timeline into account, May 24 was chosen for the examination.
Normally, students applying for BTech programmes submit their online applications between January and early February after an announcement released in December. This year, the application timeline has been adjusted due to the election schedule.
