Merit Calculation Formula for UG Admission 2026

Merit Index Calculation Formula

For all the courses, Merit index will be calculated as Aggregate** in 10+2 level.

**Aggregate marks shall be calculated by adding the marks of top four subjects in order of marks secured by a candidate. However, marks in compulsory Environmental Education/Studies shall not be taken into account for calculation of aggregate marks. If the subject ‘Environmental Science’ is studied as an elective subject of 100 marks, it may be taken into account for the purpose of determining the aggregate marks.

In case of tie in merit index, the tie breaking formula works according to the following sequence:

  • Higher merit index (Best 4 subjects in 10+2),
  • Higher Aggregate Marks in 10+2 (Best 5 subjects),
  • Higher Aggregate Marks in class 10,
  • Earlier Date of Birth.
