Notification for Ph.D. Admission 2026

Online applications are invited from eligible candidates for admission into Ph.D Programme, 2026 of Bongaigaon University in following Departments / Faculties.

The rules governing the admission shall be as per Bongaigaon University Ph.D Regulation and the UGC Regulation.

Eligibility Criteria and Selection Procedure:

i. A Master’s Degree or equivalent from a recognised University/Institute with a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a subject related to Ph.D discipline to which applied. A relaxation of 5% marks will be applicable to candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/PWD (with more than 40% disability), EWS and other such categories as specified in case of admission in an institution under Government of Assam.

ii. An Entrance Test of 70 marks will be conducted for admission into the Ph.D programme. Candidates securing 50% marks or above in the Entrance Test will qualify to appear for personal interview/viva voce of 30 marks to be conducted separately for each department.

iii. The Entrance Test syllabus shall consist of i) 50% Research Methodology, General Aptitude and Pedagogy and ii) 50% subject-specific content.

iv. Candidates who qualify in Category 1 and 2 in the NET Examination since June, 2024 need not appear for the Entrance Test. Candidates with valid Category 3 NET Certificate also need not appear for the Entrance Test. Their selection will be on the basis of their performance in the Interview only. However, candidates with UGC-JRF will not be able to avail JRF facility as recommended by the UGC.

v. The Bongaigaon University Entrance Test/NET score shall carry 70% weightage while the Personal Interview shall carry 30% weightage in final selection of the candidates.

vi. A relaxation of 5% marks will be allowed in the Entrance Examination for the candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/ EWS/Differently-abled Category.

vii. Candidates, who have cleared NET (before June 2024) or SLET in related disciplines, may be eligible for a 5% relaxation in qualifying marks of the entrance test.

viii. All candidates, including the candidates exempted from Entrance Test, must apply for admission into the selection process within the stipulated time.

ix. Candidates will be shortlisted for admission into the Ph.D programme considering the number of vacancies in the Departments, research interest of the candidates and performance in the interview. The University reserves the right to not fill up the Vacant Seat (s) if suitable candidates are not found or if any operational constraint emerges in between. All selected research scholars must comply with the conditions of the Ph.D programme.
