Admission to 2-Year PG Course of Studies under Faculty Council of Arts for the session 2026-2028

  • Online applications are invited from the eligible intending candidates for admission to the 2 Year PG Courses of Studies for the Session 2026-2028 in different subjects under the Faculty Council ((Arts, Commerce, Law etc.), The University of Burdwan. Online form will be available in the University website (www.buruniv.ac.in) on and from 17/06/2026 to 02/07/2026. However, Applicants of Burdwan University (BU) Category shall get access to the Portal for submission of Application Forms from 24/06/2026 onwards.
  • Online submission of application form by a candidate does not automatically ensure his/her admission to the Programme.
  • The University reserves the right to drop or include any name if any suppression of facts on the part of the applicants or any mistake in the calculation of grade point is detected at any stage before and after admission. Rules/Guidelines/Orders of The University of Burdwan, Govt. of West Bengal & UGC will be followed in case of admission to the above-mentioned Programme.

    • After successful submission of Application Form, all applicants are advised to take a Printout of the submitted Application form along with Application Sequence Number for future references.
    • Candidates, while filling in the Application Forms, shall have to upload the relevant documents online. Candidature shall be cancelled if it is not found during verification or at any stage of the Programme that the uploaded documents are in conformity with the original document.
    • Candidates, engaged in any Job/Full-time Work, shall not be allowed to pursue this course unless NOC is provided by the appointing authority.

Existing Intake of each Subject (Department/Centre wise) is distributed between 2-Year PG Course of Studies w.e.f. 2026-2027 and 1-Year PG Course of Studies w.e.f. 2027-2028 Under NEP 2020 in the proportion 80:20 except the Multidisciplinary Subjects.

Centres, Courses and Intake for 2 Year PG Subjects/Courses
General Eligibility Criteria
Minimum eligibility for admission to all M.A. / M.Sc. / M.Com. / MBA Programmes [MBA / MBA (HR) / MBA (Tourism)] / MLIS / MSW Programme of Studies under Faculty Councils of Science & Arts shall be:
  • For Unreserved Category candidates, the minimum 50% Marks or its equivalent grade “B” in a point scale (Minimum CGPA 5.00) in the UG Programme from any UGC recognized University;
  • For SC/ST/OBC (Non-creamy Layer) /DA/SP/EWS Category candidates there shall be relaxation of 5% marks i.e. the minimum 45% Marks or CGPA 4.50 in the UG Programme from any UGC recognized University;
  • For the Under Graduate students of NEP 2020
    A successful student of a 3-Year Undergraduate Programme under CCFUP of NEP 2020 or a candidate exiting after successful completion of the third year of a 4-Year UG Programme under CCFUP of NEP 2020, shall be eligible for admission subject to fulfilment of the above conditions shall be eligible for admission to the 2-Year PG Programme in a discipline corresponding to either:
    • Major subject at UG level; or
    • Minor subject at UG level with at least 12 credits; or
    • In any discipline which is neither a Major nor a Minor at the UG level, candidates qualifying in a National Level or University Level Entrance Examination in the concerned discipline may also be considered eligible for admission to the PG Programme.
  • For the Under Graduate students of CBCS or any other UGC recognized system (i.e. other than NEP 2020)
    • Successful candidates of 3-Year Honours Programme (under CBCS or any other UGC recognized system) shall also be eligible for admission to the 2-Year PG Programme in the corresponding Honours/Major subject and Multidisciplinary Subjects as laid down namely Library and Information Science, Women’s Studies, MSW and MBA Programmes [MBA / MBA (HR) / Tourism Management].
All provisionally selected candidates must have to produce final Grade Card/Mark Sheet of successful completion of Under Graduate Programme at the time of Document Verification and must fulfil the Minimum Eligibility Criteria, stated above. Failure to produce the required documents or to fulfil the minimum eligibility criteria will result in the cancellation of admission.
Admission Test
Each applicant shall have to appear at the Admission Test conducted by the University otherwise application for admission to the 2-year PG Programme under NEP 2020 for the session 2026-2028 shall be cancelled.
Admission Test shall be of
  • Computer Based Type (CBT) of 1 Hour duration.
  • Questions shall be of MCQ type of 2 marks each, consisting 50 multiple choice questions.
  • 0.5 marks shall be deducted for each wrong answer.
  • Minimum qualifying marks in the Test is 30% of full marks for Category C (i.e. Candidates, whose applied PG Subject is neither a Major/ Honours nor a Minor at the UG Level), except for Admission to the Multidisciplinary Subjects.
Applicants appearing in the Entrance Test for admission to the 2-year PG Programme under NEP 2020 for the academic session 2026–2028 shall be required to pay a non-refundable and nonadjustable Entrance Test Fee of Rs. 500/- (Rupees Five Hundred only) for each subject/programme applied for, prior to downloading the corresponding Hall Ticket.
Selection Procedure
  • OTHER THAN MULTIDISCIPLINARY SUBJECTS
    80% of the total Intake for the students Passed out from B.U.
    80% of the total intake of each subject/ programme (other than Multidisciplinary Subjects) for 2-Year PG Programme under NEP 2020 will be allocated for the students passed-out from the Degree Colleges affiliated to the University of Burdwan. Admission to these seats will be offered strictly on the basis of Grade Points to be calculated as stated in the Sl. No. 7 above. In case of identical Grade Point, preference shall be determined on the basis of:
    • Step-I: Higher % of average of SGPAs up to Semester-V
    • Step-II: Higher % of 12th Std. (10+2) Examination
    • Step-III: Higher % of 10th Std. Examination
    • Step-IV: Date of Birth Signifying Seniority in age, with older candidate getting preference
    20% of total Intake for Passed out from the Universities other than B.U.
    Remaining 20% of the total intake of each subject/ programme (other than Multidisciplinary Subjects) for 2-Year PG Programme under NEP 2020 will be allocated for the students passed-out from the Universities other than The University of Burdwan and seats will be offered strictly on the basis of Grade Points to be calculated as stated in the Sl. No. 7 above. In case of identical Grade Point, preference shall be determined on the basis of:
    • Step-I: Higher % of average of SGPAs up to Semester-V
    • Step-II: Higher % of 12th Std. (10+2) Examination
    • Step-III: Higher % of 10th Std. Examination
    • Step-IV: Date of Birth Signifying Seniority in age, with older candidate getting preference
  • FOR MULTIDISCIPLINARY SUBJECTS
    Total intake of each subject/ programme (For Multidisciplinary Subjects) for 2-Year PG Programme under NEP 2020 will be allocated from the eligible applicants strictly based on merit for the students passed-out from any UGC recognized Universities and seats will be offered strictly on the basis of Grade Points to be calculated as stated in the Sl. No. 7 above. In case of identical Grade Point, preference shall be determined on the basis of:
    • Step-I: Higher % of average of SGPAs up to Semester-V
    • Step-II: Higher % of 12th Std. (10+2) Examination
    • Step-III: Higher % of 10th Std. Examination
    • Step-IV: Date of Birth Signifying Seniority in age, with older candidate getting preference
