Provisional Broad Merit Lists for Admission to 2-Years PG Courses under the Faculty Council (Arts), 2026-2028 under NEP 2020

PROVISIONAL BROAD MERIT (RANK) LISTS [EXCEPT CATEGORY-C] FOR ADMISSION TO VARIOUS SUBJECTS / PROGRAMMES (EXCLUDING MBA PROGRAMME) IN 2-YEAR PG COURSES OF STUDIES UNDER THE FACULTY COUNCIL (ARTS, COMMERCE, LAW, MUSIC ETC.) FOR THE SESSION 2026-2028 UNDER NEP 2020

Important Information and Instructions to the candidates:

• Provisional Broad Merit (Rank) Lists for the Subjects/ Programmes under the Faculty of Arts etc. are published for information of all the candidates concerned.
• Grade Point has been computed on the basis of Percentage marks of the Average of the SGPAs from 1st Semester to 5th Semester in UG Programme or Percentage marks obtained in UG Programme (for the candidates prior to CBCS), as laid down in the notification vide No.: FCA/PGA/2026-2028/89, dated, 15.07.2026.
• The Merit (Rank) Lists have been prepared on the basis of Grade Points for all Subjects/ Programmes, except MLIS, MSW and Women’s Studies and admission will be done in order of preference as follows:
  • 1st Preference in the Merit (Rank) List shall be given to the candidates of Category A, whose applied PG Subject is same as the Major/Honours subject at the UG level with at least 60 Credits,
  • After exhaustion of the list of Category A, preference shall be given to the candidates of Category B, whose applied PG Subject is same as the Minor subject at the UG level with at least 12 Credits, subject to availability of seats,
  • After exhaustion of the list of Category B, preference shall be given to the candidates of Category C, whose applied PG Subject is neither a Major/Honours nor a Minor at the UG Level, but qualified in a National Level, or University Level Entrance Examination to be conducted, if required, with a minimum qualifying marks 30% of the full marks in the subject/course concerned, provided seats are available and the Merit (Rank) List of “Category C” will be published later. In such cases, the concerned Department will have to conduct an Entrance Test of its own, in a manner deemed appropriate. Candidates are asked to follow the University website (www.buruniv.ac.in ) for any update in this regard.
• The Merit (Rank) Lists have been prepared on the basis of Grade Points for MLIS, MSW and Women’s Studies and admission will be done in the following manners:
  All eligible applicants shall be treated under a single category. The Merit (Rank) Lists have been prepared on the basis of Grade Points, and admissions shall be offered strictly in order of merit, subject to fulfilment of the eligibility criteria and other conditions, as laid down in the notification vide No.: FCA/PGA/2026-2028/89, dated, 15.07.2026.
• Admissions shall be made strictly based on merit and in accordance with the reservation policies of the Government of West Bengal.
• All statutory provisions for reservation of seats for various other eligible categories shall be duly honoured and considered during the admission and enrolment process, subject to adherence to the applicable norms, government policies, extant rules and relevant orders issued by competent authorities.
• Subject/Programme wise Provisional Broad Merit (Rank) List for Admission to 2-Year PG Course of Studies under NEP 2020 for the Session 2026-2028 under the Faculty of Arts etc. is based on the information provided by the candidates. It is the sole responsibility of the candidates to ensure and adherence to the eligibility criteria as prescribed in the Information Brochure of the 2-Year PG Admission 2026 under Arts Faculty, available in the University Website. In case of any incorrect/false input provided by a candidate, the candidature of that candidate will stand cancelled.
• In case of equal grade points, secured by two or more candidates in a subject, Tie-breaking rules as laid down in the information brochure, have been followed and ranks have been determined accordingly.
• Candidates, who applied under the SC/ST/OBC-NCL categories have been allotted seats corresponding to their originally declared category and preferences given by them in their application forms. No change of Category/Seat Preference shall be entertained at the time of Seat Booking.
• All provisionally selected candidates must have to produce final Grade Card/ Mark Sheet of successful completion of Under Graduate Programme at the time of Document Verification and must fulfil the Minimum Eligibility Criteria. Failure to produce the required documents or to fulfil the minimum eligibility criteria or the inputs furnished by them are not in conformity with the originals documents, will result in the cancellation of admission.
• Provisional Broad Merit (Rank) list for admission to 2-Year PG Course of Studies in MBA Programme under the Faculty Council (Arts, Commerce, Law, Music etc.) for the session 2026-2028 under NEP 2020 will be published on 25/07/2026 in the university website.
• Notice for Online Merit-Based Selection Session for all Subjects/Programmes under Faculty Council of Arts, etc. for Admission to 2-Year PG Course of Studies under NEP 2020 for the Session 2026-2028 will be published on 27/07/2026 in the University website.
• The link for proceeding with online admission and the payment of admission fees will be activated after the Online Session for Merit-Based Selection (Phase 1).
• Enlisted candidates of the Broad Merit (Rank) list will be selected provisionally through Online Merit-Based Selection and only after the verification of the data/documents of the candidates, the admission shall be confirmed.
• The University reserves the right to rectify the list if an error is detected arising out of technical reasons and include any deserving candidate, if it is found that due to mistake on the part of the University, the name of such candidate has not been enlisted.
• The University reserves all the rights to drop or exclude any candidate or cancel the candidature of the candidate at any stage of admission and at a later stage, if it is found that the candidate has entered any of his/her data fraudulently/incorrectly at the time of submission of online application form for admission to any Subject/ Programme under the Faculty Council (Arts etc.), B.U
